Apple logo flash at startup

New iPhone 12 Pro. At startup the Apple logo flashes super bright for a brief second then the screen goes dark for about 10 seconds before the Apple Logo re appears at normal brightness to finish the startup. I’ve had iPhones for years and never had the logo turn on and then off during startup. Is that Normal for the 12?

Wow. People are saying that their phones don't turn on properly, and that they get a flashing logo when they try to start their devices. Seems very relevant to me. "start your own thread rather than rudely cluttering up this one"? Tell me, what are you so certain that the flashing logo has ZERO to do with what people are experiencing here - and if you are so certain what not offer help as opposed to insult?

Noticed it immediately on both our new iPhone 12 256—A bright flash on the first attempt to start up the phone followed by about 10 to 12 seconds of a black screen until the logo appears normally. At first I thought it was the way it operated. But I had to call Apple about something else and realized that this was not normal. We restore the operating system to the most recent and it didn’t go away. After almost three hours on the phone, I was told to go to the Apple store. Our phones are not even a week old yet. HELP!

I actually have already spoken to apple numerous times both in store and on the phone and have returned 3 other iPhone 12’s that developed this problem, each time at their recommendation not my request after they ran in store diagnostics on the phones. But thanks for sharing your “suggestions”. Lol

BTW — both phone support and Genius Bar support agreed that the behavior is “abnormal” and their solution was to replace to phone each time. That was their choice, not mine.

I came here to discuss the issue with others to see what their experiences had been surrounding it and it’s been informative to be sure!

Hi GreenEyedDi01!

Unfortunately, I, too, had to go through three iPhone 12 Pro Max (512 GB) devices. However, after the third device, I successfully purchased a device without the “Apple Logo Flash” issue; this was thanks to the advice from a user on one of the original posts of this thread. I will credit them in a separate post, and outline the steps I took.

I wanted to add to the experiences you shared. When I would hold the power button down, the logo would flash and the background remained black; if I did not release the power button the instant the flash appeared (logo flashed), holding the button any longer would not boot the iOS. In addition, to further clarify, if I held the power button down and the logo flashed and I released the button two seconds after the flash, iOS would not boot up. I hope that helps add to the clarification.

As noted earlier, I went through three devices for my phone. Our family purchased six devices in total. Once I was able to figure out how to isolate the purchase using the advice from one of the original posts, I replaced two more devices that were plagued with the “Apple Logo Flash” issue. At this time, all six devices do not have an issue.

I had the same issue with my I phone pro max 12 128gb I had to return it 3 times all had the same flashing apple logo and now I got the fourth one with same problem I am really disappointed and don’t know should I return this one too as I can’t get refund because I traded with my old I phone so I will lose my trade , I think apple should fix this problem and extend their warranty 2 years and if they can’t fix it they should offer these phone for free trade with I phone 13 as this’s apple faults, please inform us with apple solutions ASAP as this issue is getting to many people.

I have a brand new 12 Pro Max 128gb. I purchased a 12 pro but exchanged it after noticing a defect on the screen. Pro max was purchased on 2-11. I have been shutting phone off at night and noticed the Apple logo flashes and goes off and I normally hold the power button again and it comes on fine the second time. I bought my wife a Gold 12 pro and it does not have this issue. It flashes Apple logo and comes on the first time but her phone is several months older than my pro max.

The iPhones that are on display at stores/wireless carriers are very likely original models from the time of the iPhone 12 launch. It appears, from all the info I’ve seen here and elsewhere, that iPhone 12 models that shipped with iOS 14.2 and lower preinstalled and had a manufacture date prior to mid December 2020 do not exhibit the apple logo flash at startup and do not develop it even with updating to the most current iOS version.

I have cricket and using a 12 Pro max 128gb in silver and I’m working with apple support now. I tried erasing and restore from back up and the problem is still there. I’m 2 hours away from the nearest apple store and I’ve already made the trip 2 times as the first device I purchased a 12 pro 128gb in silver had a screen defect. Like an actual bubble in the glass. I’m not wanting to do it again but only have 4 days left of the 14 day return policy. What do ya do. Have it serviced as they recommend? I’d rather not on a new phone.

I've got some news...

To start with, it’s most definitely not a network provider issue as I live in the UK and not on Verizon or AT&T etc - just clearing things up.

And I reckon it’s a software or iOS version issue.

But wait, it gets more interesting!

I got help from an Apple support agent over the weekend. We went through the rigmarole of uninstalling my current iOS version and installing the latest version. He informed me that a short apple logo flash on startup was normal for the latest version of iOS - and was nothing to be concerned about! He went on to say a lot of people won’t notice this because not everyone reset or restart their devices often.

Expectedly, this explanation left me more confused than before. But as long as the device performance isn’t affected, I’ll carry on using my phone.
