Apple logo flash at startup

New iPhone 12 Pro. At startup the Apple logo flashes super bright for a brief second then the screen goes dark for about 10 seconds before the Apple Logo re appears at normal brightness to finish the startup. I’ve had iPhones for years and never had the logo turn on and then off during startup. Is that Normal for the 12?

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

After more than two weeks, I think that it is time to sum up the situation: the "flashing Apple logo" issue described by Blue-per does not occur when we unbox and boot the iPhone 12 (mini)/12 Pro (Max) for the first time, it occurs when the iPhone is already set up.

In most cases the phone performs normally after it boots up. Some users found hardware problems when using their new iPhone (phone needing to be connected to power in order to boot up, screen burn-in, battery charges very slowly, camera not taking HDR photos, etc.).

In my opinion those problems are not related with the flashing logo at startup, because they are very different from each other and they are isolated cases. They are just coincidences.

That does not mean that the flashing logo is not an issue: there are iPhone 12/12 Pro which boots with the (classic) steady Apple logo and some iPhone 12/12 Pro that do not, so it is obviously not a normal thing. It is not a "new feature" or "expected behavior".

After reading other answers on the forum, we can deduce that the issue does not occur on iPhone 12/12 Pro that were shipped with iOS 14.1 or with iOS 14.2 pre-installed, it (mainly) occurs on iPhone 12/12 Pro shipped in January with iOS 14.3 pre-installed. As a matter of fact a lot of people returned the device during the last weeks and got a new one with the same problem.

Now, we suppose (and hope) that the issue is part of iOS 14.3 and not in the hardware of the phone. In this case Apple should be able to fix it with an update, maybe already with a sub-dot-release (iOS 14.4.X) or later with iOS 14.5. There are some comments in favor of that supposition too, where people noticed that issue after updating from iOS 14.2 to iOS 14.3.

On the other hand, it is strange that (most) iPhones who updated the operating system from 14.2 to 14.3 did not experience the issue. And it is even stranger that I read a reply from a user who encountered the problem already on iOS 14.2. Those facts contradict our supposition above, and maybe the flashing logo has nothing to do with iOS 14.3.

I am sure a lot of people have this problem too; they do not notice it, because nowadays we do not shutdown and restart our phones very often. And even if they do that, they (probably) don't keep looking at the boot screen for issues.

It is very hard for us to guess if it is a software or a hardware problem. Only Apple can give us an official answer, and in order to solve the problem as soon as possible I ask you to continue upvoting this and other similar posts (clicking on "I have this question too"), commenting if you have some news from Apple and reporting the case to the Apple Support.

I’m on the phone with Apple now...

I have 2 issues... one is the start up flash and the more serious one is the phone storage under other eat up all my storage space leaving me only less than 1gb to operate.

very annoying with the constant uninstall of apps to free up space. Soon I may not even able to use the phone.

Apple disconnect the line. Hope they can call back soon 😱😭

There’s a Proof of The So called revolutionary customer service have gone down the toilets when Supervisory level authority offered me “Like New IPhone 12 Pro Max” in exchange of my brand new 3 day old device. Shame on you Gentlemen.

After spending $55 at AT&T on Restocking fees before 14days return & got Brand New IPhone 12pro max. Guess what??? Come across the same problem. Bright Apple logo on startup.

Quick google search ultimately brought to this discussion page where I followed advice of semiskilled so called expert to restore my IPhone 12 Pro Max to factory settings. After spending over 6hours on MacBook Pro for Brand New Copy of iOS 14.4....Guess What? Same Bright Flashing Apple logo at Start up.

Apple has not figured out what is it causing that problem yet. I do believe it’s not software issue anymore. This is a hardware issue in one of the component. I have Silver color & I replaced it with silver one. Have bought 4 of them and only one of it have problems.

Apple do not waste Thousands of Genius Bar engineers’ talent and should immediately Put them to the task. Find out what’s wrong. I would give my device as Guinea Pig for your technical troubleshooting. Apple must Take responsibility and offer Free Replacement as it clearly indicates the manufacturing defects. Also should return Restocking fees whoever have paid it.

We just purchase two iphone 12 pro max and one phone works and the second will not download the apps. We have spoke to the service provider with no luck. We have performed all the above mentioned trouble shooting techniques and still no luck. The other funny symptom is while we are siting in the same area one phone has 4 bars LTE

and the issue phone has 3 bars 4g. Go figure. Anything you know to check please advise. Still nothing back from apple

Yeah same exact problem here. Straight out of the box after I set it up as brand new. I’ve had the flashing logo too, then you have to press the home button a second time to successfully boot. Its not the usual loop, its what is described here in this forum. Additionally, very rarely I see a small white pixel next to the apple logo that shouldn’t be lit up. Also, I’ve had my screen change colors on its own and it looks very strange. It’s very rare, but has happened twice after only 3 weeks of having the phone. Not to mention the yellow tint screen, and I had

to fix using color filters. My iPhone 11 has a better color display calibration. After asking around, I am not the only one having these issues. Many iPhone 12 Pros have these issues and its very frustrating. I didn’t pay $1,200 for this. Shame. Hopefully the 13 series lineup will fix. We should be able to turn in our 12 pros with these issues and get an extra discount

on the 13 Pro series.

I am a user from Germany who is also affected by the problem. This is the second time my device has been sent to a repair center with a repair order. I do not understand how it is possible that an unrepaired device can be returned with a clear error picture. The case is also being followed in a German-language Apple forum.

Yes, the device is now working normally after turning on. But this does not solve the problem, because blinking the logo during a reboot may be a sign of a hardware problem and may cause more problems or disable the device in the future, at this time it may be If the device warranty has expired. And we are the customers who bear the whole loss. This is a concern for all iPhone users, and Apple must respect the trust of its customers.

iPhone 12 pro 256gb, Jan 2021 production, came with ios 14.3. Experiencing exact same issue. Still wondering if this really is software issue since other than the mid Dec 2020 ~ to date produced models are not experiencing this issue even when upgraded to ios 14.3 or 14.4.

In addition, I also notice that when recording video, the audio records at low loudness / volume then after about 8~10 seconds, it becomes normal audio loudness / volume level.

In 2019, I bought an iPhone 8 with ios12 installed on it.  It had exactly the same flashing problem, but I sold it before fixing the problem.  I think when higher versions of iOS are installed on a phone from the beginning, while the phone has not experienced previous versions of iOS, holes in the operating system remain empty that need to be fixed later.  So there is no problem in the pre-January 12 iPhones that have iOS 14 installed on them and have been updated to 14.3 and 14.4 over time.  But post-January iPhones with 14.3 installed from the beginning have empty holes in the operating system that

Apple should identify them and fix the problem in ios14.5

About the audio: If you noticed this on the 1st playback, did you check if the issues persists during subsequent playbacks? If I remember correctly, I experienced this delayed audio start on my 1st playback of a video I has just taken with my new iPhone 12 Pro, but the issue disappeared on the 2nd and subsequent playbacks. Might it be that the phone is not finished doing some processing (HDR or other such) on the video and this is the reason the audio does not kick in from the start of playback when playback is done immediately after shooting the video? Might be worth checking this.

Can you check if the iPhone other storage space increase more than 10Gb?and let me know if it is? That’s my suspicion n I’m not sure is the two issues are related. My other storage space is at 90Gb and no amount of resetting and restarting are solving that. Yes it’s irritating when the Apple Chat help blame it on my numerous apps.

i migrate everything to ip12 pro Max from ip10 Max N the old phone didn’t have both issues.

I think for now , I either abandon my ip12 pro Max n use my old phone or going through the the process of resetting back to factory every few days. Haizz
