Is my iPhone using wifi 6?

802.11ax (WiFi6) is now more widely available than last year. I have still not seen an answer to the question as to how you can tell if your iPhone 11 or more recent has successfully connected via the newest wifi standard. Is there any way to tell if it’s using ax vs falling back to ac?

From your question I presume that you know this --> Wi‑Fi 6 (802.11ax) replaces Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), which in turn replaced Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) as the standard for Wi-Fi speed in 2013

The iPhone 11 and later is capable of connecting to Wi‑Fi 6 (802.11ax)

Now the question is what is the router / modem that you are connecting to? If it has WiFi 5 or WiFi 4 the iPhone 11 and higher will only connect to WiFi 5 or WiFi 4 because it has downward compatibility. If the router has WiFi 6 802.11ax it will seamlessly connect to it with WiFi 6.

In other words, if you have iPhone XS, which has 802.11ac Wi‑Fi 5, it will connect to a router with only 802.11ac WiFi 5 even if the router has WiFi 6 (802.11ax).

Thanks for the reply, but this doesn’t help. I have a UniFi AP Lite capable of WiFi 6. However, there doesn’t seem to be a way to make sure I’m using WiFi 6 rather than an older standard. I’m looking for some indication on the phone (or the Ubiquiti equipment) that says that my iPhone 11 is indeed using WiFi 6 (ax).

Hello. I just realised tonight after 45 minutes on the phone with Apple support that many of the models DO NOT support wifi 6 (802.11ax) even though it says so on some of the Apple websites - this one for example

https://www.apple.com/iphone-12/specs/

I bought a new router yesterday just for the purpose of having wifi 6. When it didn't connect I contacted Apple and the guy at support then gave me this info:

They have conflicting info on their website which is highly annoying...
