IPad Air 4 - can’t send or receive SMS messages

Hello,

I recently upgraded to an iPad Air 4. It came with iPadOS 14.2 installed, with a notification to upgrade to iPadOS 14.3. I upgraded the OS before exchanging messages with any Android devices. It didn’t take long to figure out SMS messaging didn’t work. I don’t receive any SMS messages, and I get an error that says “Not Delivered” when I attempt to send an SMS. I use the same Apple ID on my phone and messages are linked via iCloud, so I am able exchange SMS messages with my phone (XR with iOS 14.2). Is there a fix for this issue?

P.S. iMessages work fine and are synced on both iPhone & iPad.
