Position Your Face Within Frame during Face ID setup keeps telling me to move higher/lower in frame. Tried everything already suggested online.

My face ID stopped working randomly one day, so I deleted my face ID and tried to set it up again. Now during setup, I get stuck at the Position Your Face Within Frame stage. No matter how much I move up/down, back, forward, side-to-side, it keeps telling me the same thing.

I've tried restarting my phone, tried turning the silent/ring switch to ring and then restarting again, and I have also updated to the current software and redone the steps. Still nothing. Can anyone tell me what's going on? I have an iPhone XS, software version 14.3. Thanks.
