Keyboard Not Working - If you were unable to use your keyboard to type your password, it may not be compatible with FileVault. Enter your password to disable Filevault??

My wireless bluetooth Mac Keyboard and Magic Mouse will not work after restarting my iMac using Catalina OS, I get this message:

'Keyboard Not Working - If you were unable to use your keyboard to type your password, it may not be compatible with FileVault. Enter your password to disable Filevault??'

I have to disable FileVault and restart to get them working again. This just recently started happening. I've never had this issue before with FileVault being enabled.

How about I just keep FileVault off and wait until more people start reporting the issue.

This person reported it, but had the issue with their laptop. Now how does a laptop become incompatible with it's keyboard

This goes back further a few yes, but same issue, but on a laptop:

Same issue on a laptop with Sierra, was told to reset PRAM, I tried this, didn't work

This is with and iMac user and MacBook user

Just to show, I'm not the only one. Which I don't think any of these were really resolved.

Hi md version 1.0,

We appreciate you reaching out to us. Rest assured that we'll do our best to assist you or get you pointed in the right direction.

We understand that you experienced an issue using your keyboard and mouse after a restart. To overcome the issue, you have to disable FileVault.

Have you had the chance to enable FileVault, and restart the device again? If yes, are you able to replicate the initial issue?

If you managed to replicate the issue, would you please tell us which Mac model and the exact macOS version you are using?

Also, have you had the chance to try a different mouse and keyboard?

Please keep us posted.

Take care!

Mac model - iMac 21.5in, late 2013)

MacOS - Catalina 10.15.7

On restart, I get this message:

Keyboard Not Working - If you were unable to use your keyboard to type your password, it may not be compatible with FileVault. Enter your password to disable Filevault

Therefore I have to restart in Safe Mode, and enter my password to turn off FileVault

Once restarted and logged back in, I have to wait until FileVault finishes decrypting before I can turn it back on again.

Once turned on, I restarted, and the problem occurs again.

I'm using the Mac Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse I've been using since I purchased this iMac.

I did plug in a Mac wired keyboard and mouse and had the same issue.

If FileVault is turned off, I have no issues when restarting.

No special characters in password. It uses the same password that I use to lock or unlock my computer or to unlock the padlock icon.

I've never had this issue before, I can not say when the last time I restarted my computer before this first happened last week, but I installed Catalina at the end of December 2020 on this computer and after a few searches online, I've seen other users with the similar issue but happening on their laptops after installing Catalina.

I haven't installed any new applications that I can recall other than Catalina OS.
