MacBook Pro not charging when plugged in

Hi everyone,

I have a late-2016 MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar), I have been having it for 4 years, for the past few months, I have been noticing that when ever I plug in my Mac, it first says "Power Source: Power adapter; Battery is Not Charging". And then a few minutes later, it starts charging and shows the bolt symbol.

I have had an instance where the computer completely shut down, because of low battery and couldn't use it for a day, it just didn't charge at all, but later I was able to charge it. Now I am facing a different issue, when I unplug the computer it still says "Power Source: Power adapter; Battery is Not Charging"

I went to the apple service centre and he said we need to replace the battery. He didn't check anything on my laptop, didn't open and have a look I expected him to check the device and call me back, but immediately said I need to pay 24,000 INR (329$) to change the battery. I wanted to know if there is anyone facing the same issue and have rectified it without the need to change the battery.

Thank you

MacBook Pro

Thank you leroydouglas, I checked the Battery condition of my Mac and it says it's normal. I tried resetting the SMC of the Mac and it works, but I have done this numerous times before and I still faced similar issues, my software is upto date. Regarding the battery replacement programs it said my MBP isn't eligible for replacement. Also I guess my battery wasn't expanding.

Would also like to ask you, should I change my wall adapter? I have the standard power brick (61W) and I am using my old 11" MacBook Air's power extension cord, should I buy a new one instead? Or is it a software related problem I am facing?

I would not throw money at a power brick or wall adapter— I think you have a hardware issue before software

or

you are not familiar with the new BHM introduced with macOS Catalina 10.15.5—

I am on Bigsur 11.1, I saw it under the battery section, now I am having a new issue, since I have only 2 USB C ports, if I connect my charger on one port it charges, but then later when I try on the same port it doesn't work, I have to plug it into the other USB port. But thank you for your help. Would you suggest that I should go for a service?
