Make sure the tip of the Pencil is screwed on snugly ( NOT too tight, just snug ).

Yes.

Forget the Pencil in the Settings app in the Bluetooth settings panel.

You re-pair it by magnetically attaching it to the side of your iPad Pro.

Also, after doing this, as a quick check go into the iOS Notes app, start a new note, select the Pencil icon in the top menu, pick one of the pens, in the lower pens palette menu ( not the pen with the letter “A” on it ) and try to draw and handwrite with the Apple Pencil.

For starters if you want to use an Apple Pencil for general device navigation, you need to go into the Settings app, under Apple Pencil and toggle OFF draw with Apple Pencil ONLY.

For most third party apps, they may require you to pick the stylus device within the app.

For Notability, there maybe a few settings in the Settings gear wheel icon, located in the lower left hand corner of the Notability;s folder view, under Handwriting where you may need to setup a few other settings, such as palm rejecton and a few others.

Try the new hard reset procedure for the 2018/2020 iPad Pro models without a Home button.

1. Press and release the volume UP button.

2. Then immediately press and release the volume DOWN button.

3. Then, press and hold the Power button at the top. You will see the Slide to Power off button, but keep on holding down the Power button until you see the Apple logo, then let it go.

Once you have performed all the steps, wait for a few seconds and your iPad Pro will boot up completely to the iPad Pro’s Lock screen.

I can't recommend anything except if it's still under warranty to get a new one. They offered me a 'repair'. I don't want it repaired, I want a new pencil as this one is brand new and already faulty and it seems to be fairly common. There are lots of people with the issue. It doesn't resolve with the re-boot. It comes back totally on it's own the way it goes off. I've done all the things they suggest, was one line with two techs twice, same issue. There is a problem with the pencil and it doesn't seem to have a 'fix' if you've got a faulty one. Today it seems to be working...but I'm using it with less confidence in it than when I first started. Very very disappointing.

Forget the pencil, re-pair easily, but still no response when using the tip to tap any app/screen.

i went into iOS note, create new, choose the pencil icon, still no response - Only accept my hand writing, doesn’t accept my pencil. I am sad.

I checked my apple store near me, they are all closed due to CoVID. I click on the “get support” button, I didn’t see option for Apple Pencil.

I have the same problem. It is two days old, have been in touch with apple, did all the things that people tell you to do...but it keeps disconnecting and then, sometimes just connects...for no reason...totally random either way. There is a problem with the apple pencil that no one seems to be addressing. I see many threads with the same issue. I think that Apple needs to be better at making sure their products work properly. I'm giving mine one last shot and then if it happens again, I'm going to speak to someone at a store, not a technician on the phone and get a replacement. I'm very very disappointed in this product. When it works...like for an hour...maybe...it works beautifully...but the frustration of the constant turn on turn off, works doesn't work is ridiculous. all the suggestions given are great, but the reality is the Apple pencil has some issues that need to be dealt with by Apple and acknowledged by the technicians.
