Mac Mini M1 16GB keeps crashing and then restarting randomly on all applications with following error message:

I was asked by Apple second level support to provide details of the crash reports logged when it happens.

It is [SOCD report detected: (AP watchdog expired)

Even when idle.

Steps taken with 2nd level support:

  1. MAC OS REINSTALL.
  2. MAC DISK ERASE AND REINSTALL FROM ICLOUD.
  3. ISSUE ALSO HAPPENS IN GUEST MODE LOG IN.

Apple 2nd level support seemed to think it was due to external hard drive issues. They asked me to test without drive connected.

can confirm now that the SOCD crash would only occur with My external USB A Western Digital Hard drive physically connected. After disconnecting it has not happened again, so far. After 5 days.

do you all have external drives connected?

Well, that didn't take long. I had ejected then unplugged my Seagate drive about 15 minutes prior to my last post, and just now (within 5 minutes) it green screened again.

So definitely, for me, not related to my USB drive.

At the time, I was adjusting camera settings as I am presenting at a national conference in Brazil online this evening. Or at least I was supposed to.

I'd just like to add, with hopes that apple engineers read this later, that I also have just experienced this same problem on my Macbook air M1, 16GB.

This is a new computer, I have only been using it for a month, and I had NO USB drive connected at the time of the crash.

I only had google chrome and WhatsApp open when it happened.

Fingers crossed that this is a one-time thing.

My MacBook Air M1 2020 just stopped and restarted, showing this report.

No external drives were/ are attached. Just operating MS Office, WhatsApp & Google drive.

This was a first for me, since purchasing MacBook in February 2021.

Good to know, I'm not the only one with this issue, but uncertain this issue is resolved.

just so everyone is aware, these forums are user to user only. Apple rarely (if ever?) reads anything here. If you want to get Apple's attention to a problem, contact Apple support - use the link in the upper right corner of this page. And, when speaking/chatting with someone from Apple, make sure you ask them about sending them a link to this thread.

Honestly, I cannot believe this issue is till happening. When I first posted about this, after a few weeks of following countless Apple steps, I returned the device.

Yesterday, 8th June 2021, I purchased another Mac Mini M1. Thus far, I have not had the issue, but, time will tell.

Instead, I now have an issue with the device waking, i.e. showing details on my Samsung C49" screen. Only happens on restart (thus far).

Alas, I digress. Again, still cannot believe Apple have not fixed this "AP watchdog expired" error...

My M1 MacBook Pro has crashed thrice. Twice when I was live streaming, that's been a mess. Once when I was watching a YouTube video. Twice when I was live streaming, got the same error - SOCD AP Watchdog expired. I called apple support, they suggested a reinstall. Has anybody done that? Does that help? How did your issue resolve. Kindly advice.

I just had my first ever crash, external monitor plugged in via an USB-C-HDMI converter. I also plugged in the whole thing to external power supply, which was the power supply of the iPad Pro (USB-C) and not the 60W one that was shipped with the computer. Macboor Air 16GB 512GB SSD

Now I make a try with the 60W power supply, maybe that was the reason.
