Group Text On iPhone11, Phone Keeps Muting Alerts on a Thread

I am having this same issue and am not getting an option to reply to Karina184’s response. Any other thoughts on how to get Apple’s attention on this? I have restarted my iPhone and watch at the same time and checked all settings and nothing has worked. I’m really hoping to avoid a “reset all settings” situation.

Same problem on my iPad Pro 9.7-inch (vintage 2016). IPadOS 14.4.1 ... it's been happening for a few days now in a 3-person conversation. I own no other iDevices. Have been missing message notifications, very aggravating.

This started happening to me a few weeks ago, soon after the newest iOS update. I do have an iPad; however, I’ve never muted the conversation on that device. Only on the iPhone. Not sure if it’s a sync issue or what, but rebooting and unmuting the conversation doesn’t seem to fix anything.

FWIW ... happened to me again an hour or so ago on my iPad in a 3-person conversation. In screenshot #1 notice the appearance of the small icon that the red arrow is pointing at. This appeared just as I started typing my reply. Then it changed to a normal looking half moon after I'd sent the reply. I then manually "unmuted" it. Then about 15 minutes later a new reply comes in from one of the other two participants, along with chime notification. I go to iMessage to read the reply, and it's muted again (ref. screenshot #2), even though I'd heard the chime. Unmuted again manually, rinse repeat ... So aggravating.

I recently purchased my first iPhone and am extremely frustrated with the text alert ping constantly being muted. I have returned to the AT&T store every day for 4 days straight to resolve this issue. They have tried several things and each time I leave the store it works. Unfortunately the text alert ping lasts maybe 3 hours and resets itself to mute once again. We're on our 3rd "Reset Settings".

Reading this thread, many others have this same issue so this is obviously a big problem. What is being done to resolve it and when and how is a fix going to be made?

I went back to the AT&T store after many resets didn't work. They found there was a system update, downloaded it, and so far, after 2 days, I'm "pinging" when I receive a text. Hope this helps and will work for everyone with this issue.

To everyone in this thread ... I doubt there's any solution here other than to wait for an iOS/iPadOS update that corrects the problem. I believe it was introduced in either iOS 14.4.0 or 14.4.1. Another update (14.4.2) was just released yesterday, so try installing that and see if the problem goes away. It may have on my iPad, I'm still evaluating.

FWIW ... didn't really expect it to, but iPadOS update 14.4.2 did not fix the problem, in case anyone was wondering. Has happened to me several times again today. I'm guessing the problem will eventually vanish, without acknowledgement from Apple that it ever existed.

I was a able solve the problem by deleting the individual thread. Then I restarted the thread. There has been no issues since. It is still not the appropriate way to handle the issue but better than having to reset your device.

@Enid702 Thanks, but definitely not the appropriate way to handle the issue, esp. if the group conversation is several years old. Apple needs to step up to the plate here. I'm tired of missing important messages, a few have been medical related.

I have the same problem. The solution provided to remover yourself from the chat is not useful if you are not the originator of the group message. Also if you don't want to lose the content of the message this solution is not useful. How can you get apple to fix this bug?
