Group Text On iPhone11, Phone Keeps Muting Alerts on a Thread

I have a group text thread with three others. I muted alerts on the thread while I was busy on Wednesday. I went in to the info on the thread and unmuted the alerts Wednesday evening. But the mute/dnd on that thread seems to keep turning itself back on. Every time I return to the iPhone Messages app, the mute on that thread is turned back on. I have reset it dozens of times. I have closed the app and restarted it. I have rebooted the phone. I have checked on my laptop, and tried turning off the mute there instead. But it keeps re-muting that threat. Help!

this was happening to me also. I looked at the group message on my watch after I unmuted the group text on my phone. It was still muted. On the list of messages on my watch I swiped left and unmuted. I think it worked.

it’s three days later than the comment I made above, and this method does work. Apparently the group chat can be muted on the watch, and doesn’t synchronize with the group chat mute/unmute on the iPhone.

so just make sure the chat is not mited on your watch.

I recently purchased my first iPhone and am extremely frustrated with the text alert ping constantly being muted. I have returned to the AT&T store every day for 4 days straight to resolve this issue. They have tried several things and each time I leave the store it works. Unfortunately the text alert ping lasts maybe 3 hours and resets itself to mute once again. We're on our 3rd "Reset Settings".

Reading this thread, many others have this same issue so this is obviously a big problem. What is being done to resolve it and when and how is a fix going to be made?

Thank you Ras. I have also encouraged people to reply not to me or the thread generally, but to Karina, who was the apple rep who initially responded. Or to create a new “unsolved” thread, and link to this one, as that status could be why this one seems ignored by Apple. I cannot change the status on this thread, despite trying.

This issue is not solved. I have an iphone11 and many groups texts but the 2 group texts I have with family keep reverting to hide notification after one of the other people reply or send a comment. I go in and change it back to to allow notifications or take the Hide notifications off- but it does not stay off. Each time it goes back to hide. This is very frustrating. I have already done the update to 14.2.2 and I do not have an Apple Watch. None of the suggestions have worked that are in this thread. How can we get Apple to fix this problem?

I am having the same exact issue with my 12 Pro Max. I muted a group thread one time (one iPhone user and one android user) and now no matter what I do, it keeps re-muting the thread. I’ve swiped left to turn notifications on, I’ve held the thread down and pressed “show alerts”, and did a soft reset on my phone but it just keeps re-muting the thread without prompt. It’s so frustrating! Has anyone solved this issue yet?

I am having the same issue. It is just one of my group texts with family. I’m the only one in the group that the thread becomes muted. I never muted the group text previously but it continues to revert back to mute status. I am missing texts because of this. I don’t want to reset my phone. Are there any other suggestions to make this stop. I don’t have an Apple Watch nor an iPad. So there’s no co flick there.

I suggest we all shift our conversation to my recently created thread about this issue: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252606994

Apple isn't gonna pay attention to this current thread because it's irreversibly marked as "solved." I'm hoping y'all might post on the other thread instead. I won't mark it as "solved" until there's a clear, provable, ongoing solution.

Thanks!

Thank you. As the OP, I have said and suggested this and other similar courses of action multiple times, because of the solved status on this thread. It was marked as solved months ago when I fixed my problem a few days after posting as I described, there was nobody else on the thread but one other who also fixed it, and there’s is no way to undo the status.

Then additional people started piling on when they started having the same issue in the weeks and months that have followed.

I greatly appreciate you beginning a new thread for the issue. Two thumbs up! And good luck with resolving things. I hope very much that Apple reps pay attention and help on the new thread.

How do I do that? Glad to do so! Do I just post a link within that thread? Or is there a better method?

It's frustrating to me (and must be to you, as well), that people keep posting on this "solved" (but not really solved) thread. I hoped my new thread would be prioritized in search results, but there's probably something about this one that Apple's and Google's algorithms prioritize.

Hi. I also have this problem. I don't have an Apple watch. I use Messages on my laptop as well as my phone, and alerts for the thread are not hidden in either device, in fact I have never muted it myself. I keep un-hiding alerts, when I see with dismay that I have missed a text (this is an important family group, I am always going to want to know there's a text even if I'm busy at work), and then somehow the alerts are hidden again without any action on my part.

Really appreciate any help you can provide! Thank you
