Group Text On iPhone11, Phone Keeps Muting Alerts on a Thread

I have a group text thread with three others. I muted alerts on the thread while I was busy on Wednesday. I went in to the info on the thread and unmuted the alerts Wednesday evening. But the mute/dnd on that thread seems to keep turning itself back on. Every time I return to the iPhone Messages app, the mute on that thread is turned back on. I have reset it dozens of times. I have closed the app and restarted it. I have rebooted the phone. I have checked on my laptop, and tried turning off the mute there instead. But it keeps re-muting that threat. Help!

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that group text is muted by itself on your iPhone, and we'd be happy to look into this with you.

Just to confirm, are you following these steps to unmute yourself?

Go to the group text message.
Tap the top of the conversation, then tap the Info button .
Turn off Hide Alerts.

If the group text isn't pinned. When Hide Alerts is off, you'll not find a crescent moon icon next to the conversation.

Also, let's try to leave the group text, and rejoin again by following the steps in this link:

Leave a group text on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

I finally called Apple support and after 2 hours and Reset of phone, it is no longer doing it at this point. Hopefully it’s fixed for good.

I would recommend calling them.

If you leave the group message and rejoin wouldn’t you lose all the previous text messages?

I have the same problem and I don’t want to leave the group because I’d like to keep those texts

this is NOT solved. The issue remains even with all the tips, the conversation still muted itself. This is a bug that APPLE needs to address

It appears that iOS 14.5 (in my case, iPadOS 14.5) has corrected the problem, at least in my case. Just released today so give it a try.

It's not on the list of bug fixes. Hopefully it's a byproduct of some other change. Installing the release now and hoping.
