“Hide Alerts” keeps coming back!

My brother has an iPhone X and no matter how many times he disables “Hide Alerts,” they keep coming back! He does not want to “Hide Alerts.” He disables them on a text message convo and it comes right back! He does not want to delete the message thread. Anyone else experience this?

Same EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING issue on a fully up-to-date iPhone 11. I now miss messages because I muted a conversation ONE TIME and now it always eventually resets the thread to muted no matter how - or how many times - I unmute it.

My iPhone X disables the alerts but my Mac and iPad don’t have an issue. I do have the DND set for the people seem to have insomnia and text at 2am. So not sure if there is a correlation there. I did have an odd issue earlier this year where phone calls and texts would always be silenced from people with androids. I did a factory reset to fix it. Now there isn’t any discrimination every one is silenced randomly.

I have the same exact issue for a group in iMessage. About a month ago I selected “hide alerts” one day for the group and then but set it back to “show alerts” the next day but it always reverts back to hidden alerts denoted by the crescent on the message thread and lack of notifications. It is frustrating.

happening to me. It shows off for a bit but then comes back after the phone locks. this is dangerous in a way if there is an emergency. I wish i never did this now cause i am constantly looking now at the person in hide for a doctors appointment. should of silenced the phone instead smh.

APPLE NEEDS TO FIX THIS ASAP

so i kept looking for different ideas in here and i tried making people emergency contacts to see if that helped. it did nothing... so i decided to just delete the entire conversation to see if that helped.

the only thing that worked for me was to delete my ENTIRE group chat and basically start a new one. i haven't had any issues since but that's a pain to have to delete convos just to turn the "hide alerts" off. apple really needs to fix the issue.

i recommend trying that for anyone who's struggling.

My mom just had this same issue, and this is what we found. The conversation she was having this issue with was one that she had pinned to the top of her text messages in the message app. She would click to unhide alerts and it would keep turning on again.

Solution that finally worked after weeks of the issue? Unpinning the conversation!!! As soon as she unpinned the conversation she was able to edit the alerts again without any issue.

I didn’t see anyone mention pinned messages here, but I figured I’d mention it just in case it’s what you are experiencing.

The same exact issue started for me about a month ago.... I have tried everything to keep alerts on for a thread that I do not want to delete. My daughter turned off alerts one day so that it would not interrupt music she was playing and since that day it will not stay on.

I turn the alerts back on and then I look again and they’re off again. Turn them back on in the list of messages, turn them back on in the actual message and it still doesn’t work they just shut back off. Hide alerts is completely useless right now because I do not wanna hide alerts on any thread because for fear that it will not turn back on

This has been happening to me in a very important family group imessage. They are both ICE contacts, so that hasn’t mattered. I unpinned it from the top, that didn’t change anything. I’ve restarted my phone, nothing. When I turn it off, if they text once I read the message it goes back to hiding the alerts. It’s extremely frustrating and I literally can’t delete this thread and I don’t want to reset my entire phones setting.

Apple you better figure this out soon. Nearly 3 months of this crap is unacceptable.

I have iPhone 11 on 14.4.2

Update: This solution did not work over time, my mom's phone reverted to turning on the hide alerts feature on it's own.

New solution: we deleted the entirety of the group chat that she was struggling with, and then had her join again. After a few days, that seems to have solved the problem (and she is not testing it by muting the conversation ever again) The only side effect of this solution is that you will lose the entirety of the conversation once you delete it, so make sure you save anything you want to keep before deleting!

Apple isn't going to fix this! They can't even read the **** question correctly, or they simply have a reading comprehension problem. All they want to do is suggest basic, elementary crap that ALL of us know and have already done. I personally would suggest that this issue has something to do with one of the people that is in the group chat is NOT an iPhone. My group thread has myself and one other that ARE iPhones and one that is NOT an iPhone. I chose to hide alerts for a few days and then when I turned alerts back on the issue started. I turn alerts on, someone responds and immediately hide alerts come back on. NOTHING has worked and I have done them ALL even though I know most of them are completely useless. Apple isn't even interested in this, it's been an ongoing issue for over a year if you look at the posts in this community. All we have is one of us stumbling into a fix and posting it here.

Do any of you have other apple devices that you check your messages on? I checked my Laptop it was fine, I checked my iPad it was fine BUT then my messages app on my iwatch was possibly the problem. At some point I must have accidentally pressed the hide alert on that specific group..... didn't even know I could...... and now it seems to be ok, for the last hour at least. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Go to the message on your watch and swipe right, the little moon or the delete button will come up. Click on the little moon.

Just a suggestion

“Hide Alerts” keeps coming back!
