How to remove Apple Watch Activation Lock

Okay, so here is the deal, my son-in-law got a new phone and it wasn't apple this time. He gave me his Apple Series 3 , we thought that we had it unlocked and removed from his acct. Not the case, he lives in North Carolina and I live in Virginia Beach. How do I get his information removed, so that I can proceed with the setup?????? Please Help,

Have your son-in-law follow the steps at the bottom of the "Before you sell, give away, or trade in your Apple Watch" section of:

What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Apple Watch, or buy one from someone else - Apple Support

(Where the watch has already been given away.)
