Connecting a small hp 1740 display to old iMac (late 2012)

The hp 1740 display has vga and dvi in ports.

The iMac has 1 USB port free.

Is there a dvi to usb cable and/or adaptor configuration available, and if so, would the usb allow enough signal to the display's dvi port to drive the small display?

You don't connect external display using a USB port. Without knowing which iMac you have (they have been made for over 20 years!!!) we cannot tell you the adapter you will need. If you are unsure, check in About this Mac which can be found by clicking the symbol in the upper left of the display. Tell use the size and model year of the iMac then we can direct you.

I did tell u in subject- old iMac (late 2012).

my iMac display is bad.

iMac works otherwise.

I connected a large external display, works fine.

if I want to connect a second small display, the hp 1740, there is only 1 USB port remaining on iMac.

is this possible using a dvi to usb cable and/or adaptor configuration, and if so, would the usb allow enough signal to the display's dvi port to drive the small display?
