PowerBeats Pro shutting down with battery

When using my Powerbeats Pro, the left earpiece shuts down randomly, even if it shows more than 80% battery on my iPhone. This only happens with the left one, the right one works normally.

How is this marked as solved? This isn't solved. I don't see any response that tells me how to fix my Powerbeats other than buying a new set or earbud and they aren't old enough for that to be a reasonable suggestion. This is disappointing and it really makes me question why I went with the apple product/s in the first place.

Just wanted to say, I am having the same issue as most people. Left ear piece will work for about 45 minutes after being fully charged, and then it just dies. Only way to get it to read again is to put back in case and then at that point it dies even sooner. I can’t even get through a full workout with it dying. Purchase late October of 2019. I have tried resetting, draining and nothing seems to work. Going to use on my PS5 to see if they do the same thing.

Hello,

Yes, I have tried resetting the Beats, also waited until the batteries, both the case and buds were completely drained, tried charging again and had the same problem: I had a low battery alert on the left bud, and then it shut off after a few seconds. I tried recharging that one bud by itself for 5 minutes, took it out of the case and it lasted around 5 mins more.

I'm also experiencing this same issue - my right earbud turns off at 80% and my left is usually shortly after that around 70%. I use my earbuds with a Windows 10 laptop for work and I experience the same issue whether I'm connected to my iPhone or Windows, so slightly different there. I've also tried resetting, updating all the firmware, iOS, etc. with no luck.

Did you ever find a solution? It’s obviously an Apple problem and my parents are getting on me saying I broke it when I have done nothing to them. The exact problem is happening to me where it dies and I charge it then it appears at 55%. Not a coincidence all of us are having the exact same problem. Just let me know if you ever find a solution please.

I am also having this problem with a Galaxy S10. I recently updated from Samsung One UI-2.5 to One UI-3.0 and updated the Beats App which updates the firmware on my Powerbeats pro. The left ear bud drains itself in about 2 hours to 55% and completely shuts off.

Maybe there needs to be a new firmware update.

I've had these headphones since they launched and have not had this problem.

I let the left headphone outside of the charging case for several days, and it dropped below 55% and got down all the way to 2%. I was then able to use the left headphone again for minimal time until it reached 0% and turned off. The next day I charged the left ear bud slightly and it has been working well for a few hours. I will report back in about a week with another update.

I reported the same issue today (left bud being fully charged playing for an hour then showing 55% and cutting out (right shows 85%)). Placing in the case for a second and then putting it back in gives it a bit more life but not much. Apple’s advice was to drain both fully, reset then re-pair. I’ll try this and report back if it works though reading other responses I doubt it’s a hardware/battery issue.

After trying the fix I mentioned on 22/04 (letting them both get to 0%) things seem to have improved. I also tried placing them both in the case with the lid open and pressing both round “b” buttons on each bud til they paired again. So far the left has behaved normally and makes it below 85% without dying. I’ll keep testing them and report any changes but I’d suggest trying the two things I did above to see if it helps.

I just pressed them down until the pairing box came up on my phone. Have you tried running them both to 0%? Every time the left cut out I just put it in the case for 5 seconds and immediately took it out and carried on using. I then checked the actual % by looking at the levels from the now playing blue triangle icon when I swipe down from top right corner of iPhone 12, rather than that status screen you had in your screenshot

Update: Support have said to bring them into store (UK). I was offered the out of warranty repair options and sending away for repair. I wasn’t comfortable sending them off to get a £102 battery repair bill as I’m not convinced it’s a battery issue. I’d like to show in-store team this thread and ask for advice as there is currently no recall based on this issue (yet...)

one more update: Took to Genius Bar and they’ve taken them away to repair or replace. My UK store said this was the first they’d seen of this issue but agreed it didn’t sound like a battery problem (I.e not a gradual degradation). If I get a summary/diagnostic I’ll update again but otherwise I’ll be getting a repair or replacement within a week. Best of luck and hope the rest of you find a resolution

Thanks for all the updates - I've tried most of what you said and the issue always seems to end up persisting. I've found, my right ear bud either dies at 80% or if the battery somehow gets below 80% (if I've left them out of the case for a while) then they usually die right at 55%. The left earbud seems to be behaving more normally, but still dying quicker than I remember. My ear buds are a little under 2 years old at this point and outside of the warranty so I've been getting resistance from anyone at Apple, which is frustrating because this is clearly not a normal issue. If it was a true issue of an old product I would understand, but this seems to be a broader issue.
