Constantly having to reset phone to use apps, receive text messages, notifications. help?

I have had iPhones since iPhone 3G. The last few months with iOS 14 and iPhone 12 have been the most annoying and am seeking help to resolve. I have apple 12 with iOS 14.4.

The motion of down volume, up volume, hold power button until apple logo shows has become too much of an occurrence - every single day at least once.

I keep my iPhone very updated in terms of iOS and apps, so there are no legacy versions involved only very latest. I have done a HW check with apple and nothing shows as an issue. No jailbreaking or improper use.  Phone is not damaged, works fine when it works, no battery or any other issue I can identify.

I am having issues with:

  • App Store - not downloading apps, not showing apps that need to be updated. Then I reset and apps download, and updates available.
  • Multiple Apps - not opening. Then I reset and they open as per normal - this includes instagram, nordvpn, lastpass and much more, these are mainstream apps.
  • Outlook, emails - nothing showing, then I reset and my emails appear.
  • SMS, iMessage not being received. Then I reset and they arrive.
  • Notifications mixed, sometimes I get a banner, but no icon, vice versa - and then I reset and I get both showing.

I have:

  • Reset phone - which solves all problems, which I have to do once a day minimum, works then within a day, issues return.
  • Reset my phone completely - setting up as a new phone, not from backup. - Multiple Times, works then within a day, issues return.
  • Reset my network settings - Multiple Times, works then within a day, issues return.
  • Reset all settings - Multiple Times, works then within a day, issues return.
  • Deleted apps with issues and re downloaded from app store, works then within a day, issues return.

So reaching out here to see if anyone can help? I would like to go a day, a week, a month without needing to do a reset!

So March 2nd I posted here in case anyone had similar issues and/or could help. Now April 23rd and still working with Apple Support and Engineering - sending screen recordings, more diagnostic test results. No resolution as of yet, and still doing a reset on my phone every 24 hours on average at least once. 4 months of ongoing issues.

Apple have been good, engaged, but have stated that at this time they have no resolution. My wife's apple id on another iPhone 12 - no current issues, 4 months in and her phone is set up very similar to mine.

My iPhone went in for hardware testing, no fault found.

After 12 years of being an iPhone user, maybe the 12 and ios 14 is just my source of really bad luck as 11 with ios 13 was great. Perhaps I need an iPhone 13 with ios 15 to resolve this... hope not but may come to that!

So if anyone is out there and has any ideas, please feel free to share. Will update when I know more.

Hello Jon,

It sounds like you are experiencing several performance issues with your iPhone. We understand how important this is to you and we are here to help.

You have done some expensive troubleshooting steps. The next best option at this point would be to reach out to Apple directly. You can reach them by going to Get Support

They should be able to take a closer look and check on available options.

Cheers!

So an update, Apple Service Center said they thought issue might be because I have a very old icloud account - started with apple back in 3G days. They said they had seen several similar issues over the years.

Tried this and did not work: New iCloud account, not family connected, new email address, new sim card, factory reset phone using macbook. 23hours and same issues came back.

Now awaiting a call from apple.

Apple Support have kindly escalated issues and now at engineering level. Going to be asked for logs, screen recordings. Seems they have no similar issues they can relate to at this support level which would show a fix. They believe it to be more software than hardware issue as all diagnostic tests have shown no issues. Will keep post updated on what happens next.

Apple have been great I should note, its just frustrating, at least the reset temporary fix takes 2mins.
