Touch ID on MacBook Air Issue

I recently got an M1 MacBook Air and after it has been asleep I have noticed that when I press the Touch ID button, the screen turns on for a split second and then turns black again. I did some research and found that a lot of other people are having this issue with their M1 Macs. Is there a way to fix this?

Don't push the Touch ID button to unlock the MacBook Air, simply touch the surface of the button. Sometimes I basically "tap" the button. Touching it and quickly removing my finger. Pushing the Touch ID button actually locks it again. Apparently in you case you action unlocks it for a split second, then relocks it. For more details see this Apple web page.
