Big Sur 11.2.2 printer issues

I think there's an issue with 11.2.2 and printers.

Before my iMac was running 11.2.1 and could quite happily print to a wireless Canon MG series printer on my home network without issue. Since "updating" to 11.2.2, I can still see the printer, put when it tries to print I get a "The printer is unreachable at this time" error.

Deleted the printer, re-installed it, called Apple support (never again) yet still get the same issue.

My MBP also still on 11.2.1 prints to the same printer without issue.

Thoughts?

Please do the following in this order:

·Uninstall all Canon software, put in the Trash and empty the Trash.

·Please reset the printing system per Reset the Mac printing system to solve a problem

·Next, follow the instructions in Adding a printer

Inform Apple of This:

Canon probably has yet to do their part in Big Sur capabilities.  Apple and Canon are two separate companies. So, let Apple know about this incompatibility issue.  Apple won't get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what to include in updates to come.

So, Provide the Feedback:

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: "Software/Hardware Compatibility" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Select: "Printing" for the "Feedback Area"
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

Okay, Try doing the same same steps but you will see I have added doing a Safe Mode restart. You can add the printer while in Safe Mode. Once it has been added then restart normally and test. If it still does not work, this is Canon's way to tell you to buy a new printer.

·Uninstall all Canon software, put in the Trash and empty the Trash.

·Please reset the printing system per Reset the Mac printing system to solve a problem

Restart in Safe Mode per the directions in Safe Mode Reset instructions

·Next, follow the instructions in Adding a printer

Yes, it's ok now I think, though there seems to be a bonjour printer problem (prints yards of code) but ok on usb. For Catalina, you had to use the (Samsung/HP) printer driver before the current one. For 11.2.2/3 you have to get the current driver. Also, 11.2.2 removed both of my printers and scanner so those had to be reinstalled. It's easy enough, but since the updates are now coming so close together you have to be on the lookout for things that have been broken and it shouldn't be like that.

Hi, Thanks for the response - I've done all these steps to the letter and still no joy.

My iMac can see the printer (Canon MG5250) to connect to it, selects it own drivers, everything looks OK, then when I try to print I get the following messages in the printer status box:

Ready to print

Printing - x pages (where x is the number)

Printing - Looking for printer

Printing - Copying print data

Printing - 1.70 is ready to print

Printing - Connecting to printer

Printing - The printer is unreachable at this time

Steps 1 - 6 take about 14 seconds, step 6-7 takes 74 seconds.

My iMac prior to the update to 11.2.2 was running 11.2.1 and I had printed something quite happily 2 days ago, and my MBP that is still running 11.2.1 still connects to the same printer without issue. This tells me that something has been changed / tweaked / or generally messed up in the rush to get 11.2.2 out. There have been no other changes to my iMac or Printer.

There are no updated drivers on Canon's own website for Big Sur as they no longer support it, but everything was working perfectly until the auto update went through, I've certainly turned off that option now. Sadly Apple tell me I can't roll back to 11.2.1, and Apple's tech support on this was basically denial.

Thanks - I get that they are separate companies, and if it was an update from Catalina to Big Sur that cause the issue I'd be ringing Canon's bell, in this case it is an in theory minor update in Big Sur that has caused the issue, with seemingly no way of rolling back to something that works.

Logged it and hope that Apple get on the case and sort it.

Thanks for taking the time out, the safe mode reboot made no difference.

Perhaps time for Apple not to rush out updates without checking them, I moved away from Windows for a reason.....

It has to be this incremental change as my MBP running 11.2.1 prints without an issue. Needless to say I've turned off the auto update for the time being.

Big Sur 11.2.2 printer issues: Just got my Samsung M2070 working after 11.2.2 and now, guess what, 11.23 has messed it up again. Sigh.

Where to Go from here:

A. Getting this Working Once More:

Get it working, the same way you got it working in 11.2.2. All should be fine from there. Does that work?

B. Inform Apple and Canon of this:

Let Apple Know how you got it working, and let Cannon know how you got it working. They need to know about (A.)how you got it working and (B.) that this happened after another upgrade.

C. Restore your Mac From a Backup:

Did you create a backup of your Mac prior to installing this update? If you did, then, restore your Mac from it. If not, then take this as a learning experience, knowing to always create a backup of your Mac prior to updating. That way, you always have something to restore your Mac from should anything go wrong with the update. For the Backup, use an external hard drive of at least 1.5 times the storage, or use iCloud.

Where to Go from here:

Provide Some Feedback:

Let Apple Know how you got it working, and let Cannon know about the fix, and how you think things show be. Neither will likely get back to your directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed.
