A Paramount+ subscription started outside of the Apple TV app, will require its own app.
A Paramount+ Channel subscription started inside of the Apple TV app, will require it to be viewed in the Apple TV app.
These two types of subscriptions are generally not exchangeable (although content providers can make provisions for a one-way crossover).
so to clarify, paramount plus requires separate subscriptions for AppleTV and for iPad or iPhone. So if I buy a subscription on Apple TV it cannot be used on iPad or iPhone and if I buy a subscription on iPad or iPhone it cannot be used on Apple TV?
Is this correct?
If so, I will be canceling.
does Netflix do the same charging for separate subscriptions?
Episode 6 of Clarice isn’t scheduled to be shown on CBS until April 1st and episode 7 on April 7th. Are they being shown on Paramount+ early? When there was CBS All Access, the episode would be shown the day after airing on CBS.

That is not correct. The same subscription can be used on each of your Apple devices.
I noticed last night after reading this thread, that episode 6 of Clarice and episode 7 have not aired yet. That is the reason it's doing that. Episode 6 of Clarice Airs on 4/1/201 and episode 7 Airs on 4/8/2021. As for the true reason for the thread, I'm still wondering why A Paramount+ Channel subscription started inside of the Apple TV app doesn't work outside of the Apple TV app.
Yeah with Easter and some shows are off in March there is a delay on when they air. I wondered if anyone noticed if their was content they want to watch in apple channels that they block unless you have the paramour + native app? I am seeing that with the apple channels AMC+ app with shudder. Some content they still make you have the native shudder app
The solution to this is a bit tricky, but thankfully Paramount knows about this, and they offer a workaround. Check this out...
The people over at Paramount have a solution to subscriptions made via iTunes. For you to access Paramount on the service app, you first need to verify to Paramount the subscription you made via iTunes
Let me quote what they say on this
“If you have not yet verified your subscription on paramountplus.com:
Please visit www.paramountplus.com/apple and follow the instructions.
You will be prompted to create a paramountplus.comusername and password, and you will use those credentials to sign in to Paramount+ on paramountplus.com.”
I hope this clarifies the issue.
Why on earth would it be this way? Every other subscription via Apple TV works within the corresponding dedicated streaming service app. I’m actually not a fan of the Apple TV UI, so why have I just essentially wasted ten bucks for something so trivial as where I plugged in my payment information *for the same service*? (I get I can *maybe* get a refund, but that’s not the point.) I mean let’s frame this simply: hey Paramount+, I’m now paying you for your streaming service; why are you refusing to let me use your app???
I’m honestly curious though, can anyone make this make sense?
I spoke with Apple support ad nauseum for over an hour, repeating my situation to 3 different people. THE only reason I had Paramount+ (CBS all access before) was STAR TREK! I came to discover today on DS9 any 2 parter from season 4 on required $1.99 to watch part 2. This was true for TNG for the finale until the merged both parts into one, the it was as it should be. I canceled Paramount+ & Apple+. I may resubscribe if this problem is fixed. I’m sick & tired of having to jump through hoops just to use things that should work. Perhaps this is just more corporate greed, nickel & diming anyone not in their Hayek Dollar Stack club.
I had a Paramount+ subscription via the Apple + app on Roku. It also worked on my iPhone & my wife’s. It also worked on the Apple TV app on my Mac Mini. We didn’t watch anything through iTunes. If that’s how Apple had our account then it was their screw up and this was the 2nd time I wasted over hour of unproductive time with them. So, I guess I know what my experience was.
The Paramount Plus channel inside the Apple TV App is a separate subscription to Apple TV+ they are not related.
If you were using the actual Paramount+ channel inside the Apple TV app on any device to look for the content, then there's no way you would have seen a price.
If you looked for the episode through the regular search it would have come up with the iTunes entry by default. It's entirely possible Paramount plus does not have the second episode of "Way of the Warrior" available so the only option is the iTunes Store entry.
Again this is not a screw up by Apple, it's a lack of understanding of where content actually is and how you are accessing it.
iTunes Store content, Apple TV+ content and Paramount + content are separate things entirely. However the Apple TV App searches through all of them and offers the playback options it finds for the piece of content.
Getting angry will not resolve your issue. Understanding what happened will.
Hi everyone,
After initially finding this to be an inconvenience, the truth is it led me to a much better option: signing up for Paramount+ directly through Paramount. I can still watch it on Apple TV, but now I can also watch on Roku devices, as well.
It was irritating, but I’m long over it now.
I tried this as well. The main reason I wanted Paramount plus was Star Trek. I had the “no commercials” level. How surprising it was when a Star Trek episode was interrupted by a commercial. That’s why I went back to the Apple version. I have recently read that only certain CBS TV shows, not Star Trek, have commercials at the beginning. I’m not sure I want to risk it.
This is basically the same with all “channels” within AppleTV (or Amazon and I am assuming Google) They can only be watched from within AppleTV (or Amazon, etc). and only by the person who purchased them. So, they can not be watched on Roku or GoogleTV or from a web site. They are not eligible for family sharing. I would like the rest of my family to be able to watch these channels. I don’t know anyone would do it this was unless there is a large price saving. And yes, they have made it so complicated to know if there will be commercials or not.
So I have paramount thru Apple TV but I only have this for big brother live feeds and it seems like Apple doesn’t have the live feeds on their app! And you cant just log into the paramount app even though you are paying for it . This is a mess
The Channel subscription inside the Apple TV App and the Paramount+ standalone App subscription are 2 different things.
That is indeed confusing. If you subscribed directly to the standalone Paramount+ App, it will not validate in the Paramount+ channel within the Apple TV App. Unfortunately at this time , there does not appear to be a way to get the standalone Paramount+ subscription too work with the Apple TV App Paramount+ channel.
The reverse however is possible. If you started a subscription for the Paramount+ channel within the Apple TV App, then Paramount has a way to link that subscription to a regular Paramount+ account that can be used in their Standalone App in most devices and their website.
If you've signed up for Paramount+ via Apple TV channels, just go to paramountplus.com/apple. You will have to verify your Apple ID on paramountplus.com only once.
After you have verified your account and created a Paramount+ username and password, you can sign in using the log-in credentials you just created (not your Apple ID) on paramountplus.com or the Paramount+ app.
