Apple CarPlay keeps disconnecting (2021)

Wireless CarPlay on my 2021 Hyundai i30 keeps disconnecting at random intervals. In addition to that, it also disconnects at one specific location during my morning commute to work without fail every morning. To me they seem like two different issues, even though they share the same outcome.

The audio unit issuer for Hyundai, Seednav, has already released an update regarding this concern and I have installed it in my car. Unfortunately the issue still remains the same. Recent communications with Seednav have resulted in the blame being pointed towards apple. Is there a fix in the making for this issue?

The latest update from Apple (14.5) has given me enough proof to say that this is mostly an Apple issue rather than the manufacturers. Ever since my phone was updated to 14.5, the dropouts have reduced significantly. I managed to do a 3 hour journey today with maps and spotify running for the entire jorney without any issues.

Although it hasn't completely cured the problem, it seems like we are one step closer to the solution.

I just bought a 2021 Hyundai Elentra and I have a wireless Apple car play. It keeps disconnecting every other day. I would have to reset my entire setting and reconnect again and if I am lucky it goes back on. I read a lot of complaints online and they say it’s an Apple issue. I am not here to blame anybody but both Apple and Hyundai have to come up with the solution. Since we pay over 1000$ for the phone and over 20000$ for the car. Thank you.

From what I know about Apple Engineering, I'm sure Apple has CarPlay protocol analyzers and access to a 2021 Elantra, and that they know exactly why this happens and have informed Hyundai of such.

By the same token, I also suspect Hyundai has someone on staff with an iPhone. 🤣

It's just a matter of someone there telling whomever works on their infotainment systems to look into and fix it.

Don't know what this refers to but on previous post. None worked for me

  • Toggle on Allow CarPlay While Locked in your iPhone’s CarPlay settings
  • Reset the infotainment system
  • Verify Siri is on or toggle Hey Siri off and back on
  • Use a different USB port or cable (or both)
  • Disable any Screen time restrictions on your iPhone
  • Check that both WiFi and Bluetooth are enabled under Settings > WiFi and Settings > Bluetooth
  • Toggle Bluetooth off and on or turn off Bluetooth entirely when in your vehicle
  • Delete old Bluetooth connections no longer used
  • Remove any vehicles from CarPlay settings that you no longer use or need
  • Make sure that your iPhone has the latest version of iOS
  • Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car’s manual for more information.
  • Use official Apple Lightning cord

Okay, so I drove 8 hours to southern PA. Thursday and used my iPhone, didn't work plugged in at all. I just turned off the Kia AV unit.

Tried it again the next day for 4 hours and nothing.

Yesterday (Monday) driving back I used the wifes Samsung phone with carplay and it worked flawlessly the whole way back.

7 hours straight and no disconnects.

Those are my results, make of it what you want.

All I know is my Carplay is dead till my phone works with it.

I am in Dallas Tx area and do not know where all of the posters are located but….. I have owned 5 Genesis's over the last 10 years so am familiar with the Brand. I have been in touch with Genesis Corp and have a case person working directly with me to hopefully get to the bottom of this. With that being said, they have sent me the latest firmware update which took almost 3 hours to download to a thumb drive and install.  They sent me the download after I told them the dealer told me there was not a fix....period.

The system worked  without flaw. I then removed the genuine Apple cord used a certified third party cord and it dropped out again. I have put the Genuine cord back on and no issues. I need to try this for longer than my usual drive to and from work which is about 45 minutes.

If this does not fix the issue they are sending a tech, over the next couple of weeks, to look at the situation. This tech is not affiliated with any dealership .

Update:

Genesis Corp Tech could not reproduce on his phone. Said it must be some app on the phone causing the issue. I went home plugged in wife's iPhone 7 ( I have a 12) that does not have same apps and it does not work. They also told me at dealership the head unit is an Android based unit and the program in the iPhone is an interface between the two. Also, they said I have a company installed program, MobileIron, that keeps my company email secure and it might have an affect when I receive emails. I have to be at work to remove it as I have to have help from phone IT group to reinstall.

Went back to dealer and they agreed to change head unit and USB port then remove and reapply program.

Will update later

The same problem just occurs with my iPhone 12 Pro. My old iPhone XR and business iPhone XS are not affected. All the phones have iOS 14.7.1 installed.

Different original Apple USB A cables already tested. Didn’t help. The cable itself is well connected to both ports.

It seems not to be a car manufacturers issue as many people describe this in different forums with different car brands.

I have a Mercedes C Class.

I am uploading a GIF regarding this issue as videos are not possible. There you can see it…slitghly touching the cable and then disconnected

Fair point.

From hardware point of view there’s one thing I am going to test on Monday: using a USB C to USB A Adapter with the Original provided USB C to lightning cable.

I am not sure if slightly design changes in resistors could cause such behavior.

However I also filled a Feedback form to Apple. But still wondering that many people seem to be affected without a solution in sight.

I drive a the new KIA Sonnet and have been having the same issue, but have noticed it always happens when I drive through specific locations. i.e. a specific part of a road that I travel through everyday or passing a certain electrical transformer on the freeway.

I'm surmising it is a frequency issue rather than the actual software. something Apple needs to finetune with KIA / Hyundai

Hi

I would like to help and felt your frustration. Now I am not positive I have a solution and if not I will do my level best to find it.

A lot of people are having CarPlay issues.

here are several options you can try and I pray one of them works.

go to settings > music > EQ, Now play one song on your IPhone for about a minute NOT ON CARPLAY. Then go back to settings > music > EQ and turn the EQ off. Plug your phone in again and it should work.

‘’’if it doesn’t then you Reset your IPhone go to settings and reset settings following all the prompts, you may need to give your password for security reasons, follow the prompts.

If this doesn’t fix it then I will try to find another solution.

mu IPhone only works wireless in my husbands Toyota otherwise I can’t listen to music. I use an Apple plug and put it in the USB Port.

my Car has USB and CarPlay so I have two options my IPod or my IPhone. Hope this helps

Hello and thank for asking,

First, because you have an encrypted Company phone I would suggest you go to your IT department at your Company. You will need to find out what you can or can not do with the Company phone.

Second, If you want to pass this information on to your IT Department they can assist you. You can return settings to their defaults without erasing your content. If you want to save your settings , BACK up IPhone BEFORE returning them to their defaults.

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset IPhone > Reset

Choose an Option

WARNING: if you choose the Erase all Content and Settings option, all of your content is remove.

Reset all Settings: All Settings - Including network, settings, the keyboard dictionary, the Home Screen layout, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay Cards - are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.

Before you do anything I would suggest that yo contact a Senior Apple Support as this is a Company Phone
