There is an error with erasing the disk

I want to erase everything on my laptop and I got a prohibiting sign on start up. I tried to erase the disks but there were errors. I am now downloading the new MACOS

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.14

You can not erase a disk you are booted from.

Try from Internet Recovery— Option Command R Recovery: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904
