I have 15 years of photo’s on my PC. Would like to select some and transfer them to my iPad. Will Apples flash drive work for this ? I use my iPad often in conferences and would enjoy having these photo’s on hand when needed.

You can install and use both on the PC. They will happily coexist - and provide considerable flexibility in how you move/share/transfer photos and other documents and data between iPad, iPhone and your PC.
