usb-c hub for dvd model a1379

I have a Macbook pro 2019 with 4 TB plugs. I have an (2012)Apple DVD external Superdrive Model 1379. I just bought the Belkin usb-s hub and when I plug in my dvd player to it, my computer says the Superdrive needs power. I plug my power source into the hub and my computer shows it is plugged in but the drive still doesn't work and the warning message about power needed for the Superdrive is still on my computer. Any ides what to do?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

What to Try:

  • Restart your Mac:

What happens when you restart your Mac with this plugged in? Does it then work? If so, then things needed to re-sync.

  • Try Safe Mode:

Boot in Safe Mode [Hold Down: the shift key] upon boot. In Safe Mode, login items do not open at login, and corrupted files are reset. So, boot into it, and see if it then works.

  • New Administrator User:

Try creating a new Administrator (for troubleshooting purposes). See if it then works. If it does work, then it is likely something misconfigured in the current user.

Brand-for-Brand:

Going brand-for-brand may be the way to go about this, as it would be more rebate among devices. The drive is manufactured to power off the Mac, not a power cord. So, no external power would be expectedly needed.

Is this what you are Using?: Belkin USB 3.0 4-Port Hub + USB-C Cable? It is sold by Apple, and is meant for such peripherals. It is sold by Apple, so it would assuringly be trustworthy.

Is this Drive Even Seen?: To Find Out:

  1. Go to: Apple menu
  2. Select: About this Mac
  3. Click: System Report... button
  4. View: Hardware on left-column
  5. Click: USB
  6. Confirm if the Drive is Even Seen
