Apple TV Possibly Hijacking Volume On Samsung TV
This is going to sound odd, perhaps, but it's possible that our Apple TV has recently started hijacking the volume control of the Samsung TV to which it is attached. When this happens, we are unable to change the volume (with any service, provide either through the Apple TV or through the Samsung tuner), with either the Samsung remote or the Apple TV remote. You can see the volume numbers "trying" to change on the screen, but they don't actually go anywhere, and the volume also doesn't change. The mute button on the Samsung remote does work in this case, but only to mute; once muted, the button doesn't work to unmute.
The only ways of resolving this are:
1) Unplug the Apple TV from the wall for a few seconds and then plugging it back in.
2) Unplug the television itself from the wall for a few seconds and then plugging it back in.
Unhooking the Apple TV from the television for a few seconds (while keeping the Apple TV plugged in to power) does not resolve the issue. When it's resolved, both remotes resume correctly controlling the volume.
I'm aware that this is most likely a Samsung issue, but before I go that route with them, I wanted to check on here to see if anybody had heard of anything similar. The part that makes me think it's possibly not Samsung is that cycling the power on the Apple TV resolves the issue.
This happens frequently -- as in daily.
