Siri is not able to play my playlists any longer

For the last few days, Siri is unable to play my playlists when I ask "Play my [Playlistname] playlist". Instead Siri decides to play some generic playlist with a name or topic which might have a similar name or theme, for example, if I ask Siri to play my "Forest" playlist, I get "Forest sounds now playing".


This happens for any playlist I try. I have an active Apple Music subscription, and this worked fine until a few days ago.


The problem occurs on both iPhone, iPad Pro and HomePod, all updated to the latest iOS/iPadOS. It still works on my Mac (updated to the latest MacOS) though.

We can verify that Siri generally works as expected on devices running the latest versions if their respective software. Starting with your iPhone, try completing the following steps to help Siri recognize your voice:


  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Siri & Search.
  3. Turn off Listen for "Hey Siri," then turn it back on.
  4. When the Set Up "Hey Siri" screen appears, tap Continue.
  5. Say each command that you see on your screen.
  6. Tap Done.


If this resolves the issue for you, complete the same steps on your iPad as well.


Next, test your original HomePod to see if it's now recognizing your requests. If not, use the steps on the following page to reset your HomePod. Reset HomePod.

I have tried different ways of rephrasing my requests, also "Play my playlist [playlist name]", but still with the same result. It seems like Siri cannot access my playlists and is therefore unable to identify what I am asking for. I purchased a HomePod mini during the weekend, and that one is able to find and play my playlists when requested. It is currently running the 14.3 version of the HomePod software, and I chose not to upgrade it to the latest version as I'm afraid that the functionality will cease to work if I do.

I followed the steps above on my iPhone, but after completing those steps, I still get the same behaviour where Siri will pick something which might be in a similar category, based on the name of the playlist I request. For instance, I have a playlist called "Adrenaline" in my library, and when I ask Siri to "Play my Adrenaline playlist", a playlist called "Pure workout" starts playing (which is not a playlist I have in my library).


After introducing the new HomePod mini to my ecosystem, this functionality has suddenly started to work again on my two older HomePods, but the problem still persists on my iPhone and iPad Pro.
