Apple Music Recently Added

Apple Music 1.0.6.10

MacBook Pro (pre-2015)

OS 10.15.7

Every time my iCloud Library re-loads, it adds 20 albums as "Recently Added":

  • it's the same 20 every time (out of a total library of 3000 albums)
  • I own the albums and added them to my library via CD between 2015-2019
  • I have not listened to any of them in the recent past
  • They are not in any of my playlists
  • I have deleted them completely from my iCloud and laptop and re-loaded them (March 4, 2021)
  • They showed up at the top of the Recently Added list again today (April 2, 2021), pushing down albums I have actually added between March 4 and April 2
  • This is inconvenient because I use the Recently Added function as a "to do" list for newly added music.
  • So far this only seems to impact my MacBook Apple Music and not my iPhone Apple Music.
  • Is there any fix for this?

In the screen caps I added:

  • The photo showing "Today" contains mostly albums I originally added years ago and then deleted and re-added on March 4 2021.
    • Everything in the first photo after the very first one should not be "recently added"
  • The second photo shows albums I actually did add within the last few days but are pushed down in the order because these older albums keep "coming back"

I resolved this the hard way. As a last resort:

  • I deleted the songs from my library again and saved copies of the files elsewhere
  • I used a media converter to convert the files into a different format (actually just one bandwidth to another)
  • I re-loaded the new versions into my library
  • It's been 5 weeks and the problem seems to have gone away.

It's a mix - some songs within album are split between uploads and matches - which is very weird. For example - The B52s WILD PLANET album: I own the CD and my files are sourced from that. It is also available on Apple Music. So in theory all the songs should "match" but they don't. In any case it's a mixed bag across the sample of 20 albums. So I am going to:

  • delete all the albums again completely from my laptop and my library
  • convert the original AAC files to MP3 (this has worked with other issues on the old iTunes app too)
  • I'll re-import ONE album and wait and see

Its a weird one for sure. Been trying to figure it out for almost a year! I have done A/B compares on the files and there is nothing different about them compared to any other files. Just really odd. Same 20 albums with no real correlation. The only time it happens is when the iCloud library is being re-loaded after a re-boot of the laptop or a re-start of the app.

We can clarify, Gregg Indy,

When you create the new administrator account, which will essentially start with a fresh set of files, you'll sign in to Music with your information. It'll then load your Apple Music library and we can see if it replicates the concern with recently added. This will help us determine where the problem may lie.

Thanks!
