ICloud Mail is Slow
I am having trouble with all my devices being very slow to download. ICloud is really slow on Safari. My internet speed is good.

The third tech guy I spoke with is scheduled to call me this afternoon to check in (he was off Thurs-Sat). I am sure he has little control over what information he is given, but I am wondering what I will--or what I should--tell him. He's the one who suggested I should clear out many thousands of emails (not a bad idea, in and of itself), but since the syncing problem solved itself (well, I hope it didn't just happen on its own!) before I had gotten all that far in deleting emails, that clearly was not the problem.
I moved all my emails to an archive folder on my Mac and then deleted everything (inbox, junk, trash) and waited until the folders showed empty in the online icloud account. It made no difference. In fact, the techs i talked to said I had plenty of storage and deleting emails would not help.
My refund request has been approved and just waiting for the storage to be downgraded from 2 TB to 200 GB.
I can’t speak to what issues having thousands of emails on iCloud may have. I read and delete all messages every day, I do keep certain ones but there are no unread emails in my account. Saturday and today have been completely normal, nothing you may have done would have affected anything. The test will be tomorrow around 10 am EST.
The rep I’ve been working with is supposed to get back to me with the latest that he’s heard from engineering. I can also reply to emails he’s sent me which get back to him so I can update him on any continuing issue. I asked him about posting my case number here for others to reference when they call in but he said that would only lead back to me and they wouldn’t discuss my details with others who call. But you shouldn’t have made any changes in your account or settings since about 8:30pm EST Friday. It always improved over night and this weekend has been perfect.
I've had two support reps tell me the number of emails and the storage size don't have any effect on the speed. They do all seem to think it's a device problem but I know it's not, the icloud website also becomes painfully slow. I clocked a request to open an email at 75 secs to get a response last week.
E-mails uploaded/downloaded perfectly over the weekend. When I woke this morning I had a notification that I could not send/receive e-mails because my storage was full. I bought the 200 GB plan and set up family storage. The first thing I noticed were my e-mails were just as slow as they had been. I checked for a while and then went back to a 2 TB plan. No change this time. Still slow as molasses.
I noticed earlier around 8am EST that emails started to slow down on my one problem account. As you mentioned over the weekend it was perfect. Right now about 10am it actually seems better. We’ll see.
That’s the big issue that’s going to hurt them here. For an account like mine it’s not that critical to have messages arrive and load later than acceptable plus syncing between devices is extremely slow. But for anyone that uses an iCloud account for business this is completely unacceptable. Maybe AOL should make a come back.🤷♂️
Exactly the problem I have on my iPad fifth generation and my iPhone 12 pro. I’ve checked my Wi-Fi modem, the speed, I’ve emptied trash and junk on apple mail, closed mail restarted device, still happens.
I thought I was being a little smarter this morning when I contacted support. I clicked on the icon that says apps, music, or mail. When she called back, we went through the same old thing of her telling me its beta or software that needs updating. Finally, I got her to turn me over to a supervisor. Again, through the same old stuff. Only this time she put malware software on my Mac, had me connect both ethernet and wifi, had me do speedtest. My speed is 110 MBs down, 6MBs up. She said Apple likes at least 10 MBs up. Sorry, Xfinity says 6 MBs up. Had me reboot my router. I even showed her some of these e-mails.
Finally, she agreed to send this to engineering with the notation that she done every check and it is not on my end.
The one test I should have done - My wife shares my storage under family share. I sat her iPhone next to mine and sent both of us an e-mail. She got hers immediately, mine took three minutes.
I just called and told the rep I had no interest in doing troubleshooting with her, that it's happening on all my devices and on their website, that it's happening every weekday from around 10-6, etc., and also mentioned this thread. She agreed with everything and said it's definitely Apple's issue. I hope if we just keep doing this eventually they'll take notice and escalate.
Removing emails from inbox and sent, especially the high data ones, didn’t help my email issue. I also then emptied the email trash & junk, mail, closed the app restarted the iPhone and iPad etc.
I am having this exact issue. My email on my iCloud account is so slow it is pathetic. It is taking 45 seconds just to check for emails. This is happening an WiFi, Cellular, Web and across all my devices, M1 MacBook, iPhone 12 Pro, iPad 10.2, all running the latest OS versions. As with others, it gets better in the evening and weekends. During the day, unusable. When I contacted Apple all they did was say all. services are running as expected via their status page. I will be calling again. I am going to an Apple Store and I will show someone when I take in a leather case that looks terrible after a few months. I hope they figure this out soon as I am getting annoyed. Good luck all!

I changed absolutely nothing recently, but sometime yesterday afternoon, I realized that Mail was behaving itself. Messages appeared to promptly arrive, the body of the message was filled as soon as I opened it. I received a copy of this post at 10:00 EST, and when I happened to open it two minutes later, the entire message was rendered. This hasn't happened in a month or more.
But, will these good times continue to roll?
Honestly, the hotspots are all the major metro areas in the US. I'm in Seattle, and the issues are 24 hours a day. That said, my husband (same wifi network, btw) is not experiencing ANY issues. Appears to be user specific.
I have 2 iCloud accounts, one is fine, the other one has the issues. That’s hard to figure, I would believe both of mine would go through the same servers. I know I’ve seen issues in the past where my wife was having an issue and I wasn’t but I was told that even though we’re on the same WiFi we are being directed to different servers, so the issues differ. And since the problem is affecting iCloud.com I’m not even sure this is a server issue but some internal issue with iCloud itself. Maybe this is how they prepare for iCloud+🤷♂️ Sign me up!
