Mojave v. Catalina on iMac

My iMac kept crashing, so the geeks wiped the drive.

Reload it with OS Mojave (like it had before).

BUT then Keynote. app and iMovie.app would NOT reinstall until the iMac installed Catalina.

My MacBook Air runs Mojave, no problems with Keynote, iMovie, Quicktime.

How can I get the iMac working again with Mojave, as it was. If the MacBook can run all these things, why not the iMac?

Also, Catalina will not accept QuickTime at all.

What does Apple recommend we run to play MOV files? and do the things QuickTime does/did?

Backup and log out from App Store, delete Keynote and iMovie, reboot, and then try to reinstall them and see if that works. If not, I'd make a bootable flash drive and use it to APFS-erase the device (not just the volumes under it to get rid of extra Catalina volumes) and cleanly install Mojave.
