When playing Audible, the app shuts down after the screen goes to sleep. How do we fix this? iPhone 12 currently. Previously tried a couple of solutions suggested elsewhere, like closing lol other apps, restarting iPhone and app, etc.
Can’t listed uninterrupted in car, in bed, or anywhere without either shutting off iPhone screen sleep option or repeatedly unlocking iPhone.

I contacted Audible about this problem and was told to remove the audiobook from my phone and then re-download it again. This solved my problem. (They said if it happed with multiple books, the problem was probably with not having the current updates of the system software.)
restart fixes it for a day - i've pretty much had to reset every night for the past two weeks

In that case you have a different issue than the other people in this thread, start your own. But you might want to try a forced restart before you do.

Me,too. The audible app now stops when my IPad locks. It was not like this last week.
This isn’t just an audible issue.
I’m having it with both audible and Apple Music.
Happens using the phones own audio, AirPods, wires headphones and casting to homepod
Unfortunately this isn’t just an Audible issue. No video, podcast or music will continue to play when the phone screen goes to sleep. Thus it is an Apple problem as it started immediately after I did the update from Apple.
What worked for me:
iOS settings -> Audible ->turned off Background app refresh
Close audible (if open)
Open audible
Close audible
iOS settings -> Audible ->turned on Background app refresh
Open audible, and it now plays even after iphone goes to sleep
This fixed it for me . Not sure why it worked but for now it did. The audible app was not needing updating but 6 others did.
After the update, restarted. This worked.
Audible stop playing when iPhone sleeps.
