sync calendar/contacts with iCloud versus iTunes

I use iTunes on a Windows 10 PC to sync my Outlook 365 Calendar and Contacts with my iPhone 8 calendar and contacts. Today I received the following message in iTunes: "Support for syncing contacts and calendars has been deprecated and will be removed in a future version of iTunes."

I think it is still syncing. My questions are as follows:

  1. Best option if I cannot use iTunes - Is it iCloud?
  2. If it is iCloud - will it duplicate all entries the first time I use iCloud to sync or does it recognize the two (iPhone calendar/contacts & PC based Outlook calendar/contacts) are already synced and just add/remove/change any differences? I have not used iCloud in past.

One last note: I sync both an iPhone and iPad Air with my Windows 10 PC.

Windows, Windows 10

Has anyone successfully synchronized/backed up IPHONE 15 PRO and if so what ITUNES version was used?

From what I read IPHONE 15 and 15 PLUS can use iTunes 12.12.10 but I am curious if this iTunes 12.12.10 version will also connect to IPHONE 15 PRO that will most likely have iOS version between 17.1 though 17.2.1 installed. **I have not bought the phone yet just trying to ensure it all works first.

Sorry ... yeah ... I should have done a better job of describing what I'm seeing.

For some of my contacts I have lightly formatted text in the "Notes" field.

Some font size changes, bold-ing of some text.

Lately that formatting seems to be getting reset. All of the actual text is still there,

but it has been switched back to plain text. It all goes back to 11 point regular (no bold).

Since it appears that the "depreciation" of the sync. feature to Outlook is either no longer being considered,

or is at least not imminent I should go ahead and upgrade... both the iTunes via the Microsoft store,

and the iOS on my phone ...

I'm just not in the mood for rodeos at the moment so have been putting it off ;-?

ok thanks for the clarification. Honestly I did not even know you could edit the text format within a note inside a contact. I just tried it again on my phone but still don't see any option to change it at least on my phone. Is there a global phone setting to allow this? So unfortunately I can not offer any help to your original question. As previously stated though I can confirm contact notes sometime disappear which is very frustrating, I have yet to find a rhyme or reason for this anomaly that has been going on for years across various ITUNES and IOS, maybe its related to my older OUTLOOK 2013

As for updating yes I agree with you, its always a rodeo during updating phase due to all the investigations you have to do before updating to ensure you do not break the sync feature. Would not be so bad if we could control what IOS version we wanted installed on the phone at any given point :)

FYI - At moment I have upgraded ITUNES to 12.13.1.3 but still using older IOS 16.3 however tonight I plan on upgrading to IOS 17.2.1. Will post results soon.

*** Anxiously awaiting the results of your "upgrade" ;-) Hope you have success with 12.13.1.3 <--> 17.2.x

In other news, babbling on:

The notes fields in some of my contacts in Outlook have mild formatting

Font size changes / bold / etc. Historically when I sync I have always gotten just plain text on the iPhone,

BUT the formatting has been preserved in Outlook which is OK ...

Lately I've been seeing the formatting in Outlook get scrambled ... bolding goes away,

some text has it's style changed ... seems like it's a sync issue but hard for me to be sure...

I'm an old man ... I'm starting to get confused.... could someone straighten me out?

Somehow I missed the December announcement of the new iCloud for Windows s/w

Read about it today, and one of the release notes says:

• Resolves contact and calendar syncing problems with Outlook

(requires the latest version of Windows 11, version 22H2 or later).

I'm still running W10, I am curious as to why the problem is not resolved for older systems?

Apple Devices s/w is now released ... is it a warmed over version of iTunes or is it a new code base?

Do these new products mean that iTunes is not long for the world?

I've never quite understood why newer versions of iOS require upgrading to a new version of iTunes,

or is the newer version of iTunes only a necessity if you want to upgrade your iOS via iTunes?

I'm feeling a little stupid right now......... :-/

So here I am running MS store version of iTunes 12.13.1.3 and iOS 17.3.1

And it is working ok. On my last sync. I had some issues that made it seem like if iTunes didn't have a connection to the internet then the sync. failed.

But I wasn't ready for that situation so didn't take notes on it. Something else could be going on,

I'll watch for that in the future.

and.................. here we are with 17.4 released ... sheez ... the fun never stops?

i was going to ask the same thing. i had my calendar syncing to my iphone/itunes with no issues until about a week ago when i updated to iOS 17.4. Ive had Itunes version 12.13.1.3 for a long time, so i know that wasnt the issue. i need to use Outlook (not exchange) for work purposes as cloud is not an option. i use an Iphone 11 and have no plans to upgrade as of yet (my last phone was an iphone 5, and the one before that was a 2nd gen 3gs) as my phones last a long time.

i was able to find a way to still sync my iphone and outlook 2021. i just have to do so with itunes open on my pc. if i select it set to sync with my pc this way it works. if itunes is not open, it doesn’t sync.

apple needs to keep the ability to sync iphone/ipad with outlook. there are a lot of business' that use this combo, including mine. i don’t like the idea of having separate pc apps for different apple options. that’s ridiculous. and killing connections to programs like outlook is going to cause problems for customers (as it already had). this is a bad move apple.

I always sync with itunes open. I have my system set to do it only when I manually click the sync button. As I manually transfer my audiobook and music, I did not want it to sync everytime I plugged in my phone. I have never actually synced my phone with iTunes closed. Did not even think that it could be done.

So you can confirm that iOS 17.4.1 and iTunes 12.13.1.13 does sync?
