sync calendar/contacts with iCloud versus iTunes

I use iTunes on a Windows 10 PC to sync my Outlook 365 Calendar and Contacts with my iPhone 8 calendar and contacts. Today I received the following message in iTunes: "Support for syncing contacts and calendars has been deprecated and will be removed in a future version of iTunes."

I think it is still syncing. My questions are as follows:

  1. Best option if I cannot use iTunes - Is it iCloud?
  2. If it is iCloud - will it duplicate all entries the first time I use iCloud to sync or does it recognize the two (iPhone calendar/contacts & PC based Outlook calendar/contacts) are already synced and just add/remove/change any differences? I have not used iCloud in past.

One last note: I sync both an iPhone and iPad Air with my Windows 10 PC.

Sorry not to reply sooner, notifications got turned off somehow...

Yes that looks like the same offer!

I've been using it for several months now without issues, sync is fine.

Price was great!

Slightly off topic, but my Outlook.PST file reports a number of errors (like 100 or os?) like this when I run ScanPST, and they can't be repaired. Does anyone know of a fix?

Thanks ... @APB1966 ;-)

In OTHER news...

I have Outlook 2021 which when I bought it was the "Stand-alone" product.

I did not have nor do I now have/want/need the cloud-based Office 365....

BUT it looks like maybe we are getting it anyway????

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/microsoft-office

"Office is now Microsoft 365"

Office is now Microsoft 365, the premier productivity suite with

innovative Office apps, intelligent cloud services, and world-class

security. Office.com, the Office mobile app, and the Office app for

Windows are now the Microsoft 365 app with a new icon, a new look, and

even more features designed to help you achieve more.

Has anybody figured out what this means???

Well here I am again.

I'm posting mostly to help keep Apple from closing this thread due to inactivity.

I missed the fact that iOS 16.6.1 came out, since no one has posted to the contrary I'm guessing it doesn't cause problems.

I'm still running iTunes 12.11.3.17 does anyone see any advantage to upgrading to something newer,

or should I not try to "fix" anything if it's not broken?

;-)

Thanks tt2

iT IS Great to have a person of your stature here on the thread watching over idiots like me! ;-)

I agree Apple does not seem to be committing any real resources to iTunes but then...

I only use iTunes for sync-ing so if that ball is in the long-grass I'm happy.

If they do blow it up, I guess there is Outlook Mobile to evaluate,

but that would require me binning my Stand-alone Outlook 2021 and migrating to Microsoft 365 ...

Which for me is a real <face-palm>

Otherwise I guess it would be some 3rd-party app...

Wait and see I guess....

(I had posted this last month, but the posting is not visible for some reason, hence re-posting, included an update about latest iTunes version as well) I am not able to update to 17.1.x and later iOS releases using iTunes 12.12.10.1 or later (on Windows 10)... tried repairing, resetting iTunes, etc... the error says "To update your iPhone to iOS 17.1.1, you need to install the latest version of iTunes", however iTunes indicates that it is on the latest version; also verified the same by downloading the latest version from Apple directly. On the other hand, after updating iOS directly from iPhone (OTA), local sync is still working when using iTunes 12.12.10.1 and iOS 17.1.2, also verified with iTunes 12.13.0.9 subsequently.

This may be a related issue.

I have recently noticed that SOME (not all) formatting is being stripped out of the "notes" field of my contacts.

Is anyone else seeing that?

For reference I have an iPhone 13 pro sync-ing to Outlook 2021 using iTunes V12.11.3.17 downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

I know newer versions of iTunes what the Microsoft store doesn't seem to show me is what version I will get if I update :-/

Thanks for any assistance!

Jim

jimbob5941 .... can you please clarify what you mean about "formatting" being stripped? do you mean data is being stripped or you mean text formatting? i did not think special formatting was offered in contact notes?

I have noticed random missing data SOME (not all) in contact notes for years never been able to determine the cause.

Regarding software versions there are at least 4 more version after yours maybe more until the latest..... I do have 12.12.7.1 if you need it. I also could not see what version Microsoft Store offered until its installed :(
