Hi everyone,

I have been having the exact same issue with FaceTime and other video chatting apps like discord and zoom. I have been contacting apple support for the past few days and tried various methods but nothing worked. Today I went into the Apple Store and explained everything that was going on and what I have tried and they said it is most likely a software issue since a week ago, another person came in with the same issue, they replaced his iPad Air 4 for him, and when he activated it, the FaceTime issue still persisted. FaceTime may work on iPhones and MacBooks but not the iPad currently because each type of device has their own software (iPadOS, iOS, macOS), so it is definitely a bug with iPadOS. They said to look out for the next one or two updates and see if those fixes the problem since their latest updates were not directed at fixing this issue. They said that apple has become aware of this issue and are trying to fix it. The lady I spoke with told me that she has reported it to try and move this issue up to tier 2 and gets to the engineer team. She said if you have the same issue, call into apple support and report it because if more people report it, the quicker it will be solved.

Stumbling upon this thread has been the best thing I could do today. We’ve been experiencing this very thing with my son’s iPad. We purchased the 8th gen in March for his birthday. He likes to talk with his buddies on Messenger Kids and play Minecraft or Roblox as they chat. In early June (must be shortly after his iPad updated software) he began experiencing the failed calls. We did all the things I knew. In speaking to Apple and getting bumped to the “tier 2” technicians we performed a few factory restores to the iPad, I created a whole new user account for him, we looked at settings, we grabbed logs of the issue happening in real time etc. he’s unable to FaceTime consistently. Sometimes if the call goes through he can talk for a minute or two. This is the same for messenger kids although sometimes the video sticks but we lose sound and the others on the other end can’t hear him. Screen recording is also a problem we found out. After a short time, the microphone cuts out and you only record video, no sound. Voice memos are hit and miss too. We became convinced it was a microphone issue and in mid-July we sent the iPad to Apple. After nearly a month, we picked it up today and found they replaced the iPad entirely. We were thrilled! We came home and set it up as new (not restored from a back-up) and to my horror, it continued the antics. After much googling, I stumbled upon your experiences which ease my mind that there is simply nothing I can do or have done on this end. It’s out of my hands. We have the most recent update, 14.7 installed on it also. I will be talking to Apple support again after I give it a break for a day. I’m exhausted as this has been a 2+ month endeavor so far. My other son is in need of a new iPad too and I don’t know what we will do but I’m not giving them more money for products that don’t work. He literally uses this to play with friends daily and when he can’t do that, why bother anymore? Thankfully, he’s able to use my 4 year old iPad Pro which is working great. Very dissatisfied and disappointed that this issue hasn’t been resolved yet especially after finding many are experiencing this issue. I will update if I ever get resolution.

It’s been months and several updates later, and no solution as of yet…apparently, Apple doesn’t disseminate information to their personnel, as I have had interactions with more than a dozen different folks and every single one of them have said that they haven’t heard of this issue…go figure…I purchased a brand new 2020 IPad Pro earlier this year to replace my original IPad Pro that was having charging issues, but worked perfectly when charged and I used it daily for FaceTime with family and friends. I am so angry that Apple hasn’t even taken the time to call me with an update in over a month. I will certainly warn perspective IPad buyers of the issues I’ve had and the poor response from Apple. Something tells me they won’t have it fixed until iPadOS 15 comes out in the fall….

Everyone here needs to send out a bunch of feedback and continue to do so on this issue until Apple finally gets the idea that there is something wrong with FaceTime and later iOS/iPadOS 14.5 and newer.

Cognizant Apple teams and employees DOES NOT monitor these user to user support communities.

Everyone here needs to send MULTIPLE feedback to Apple on this issue.

If everyone here is adamant and resolute and angry/annoyed enough about this continuing issue, then you all need to take whatever time is needed to send lots of feedback back to Apple.

This is THE ONLY REAL way to get the right Apple employees’ attention.

Tap the link below and start hammerin’ on this feedback page to get Apple's attention or this issue will continue to go unfixed and unrecognised.

Thanks MichelPM, I submitted a feedback as well. I understand that apple does not look at these threads so I also took the liberty of screen recording this entire thread and submitting it to a link that a senior advisor provided me for my case for screenshots and video recordings. I hope they finally pay mind to this issue and fix it since its been several months already.

Just found this post. I have exactly the same issues with a still in warranty IPad Air. Chatted with a rep a week again and tried several things including reset of my network, toggling FaceTime on/off, reboots, hard restart, etc. After network reset and reboots, it works for a few minutes, then all calls “fail” again! Rep suggested we sign off and I try a full reset back to Factory settings, use it like a new machine (not restore from backup) and if that worked then restore from backup. Nope! FaceTime calls failed immediately. So, today, I called support, explained what I had tried and the rep said I had tried everything she would recommend, so my next step was an Apple Store appointment. Interesting that she did try search Apple support records to determine if this was a common problem and came back several minutes later and indicated there was no info. Now wondering if I’m wasting my time driving 50 miles to an Apple Store next week.

IOS 14.7. Apple please GET THIS FIXED!!

I’ve done the exact same thing and other stuff too. I feel that it’s completely useless to bring it in. I tried to bring it in and they literally told me there is nothing they can do since it’s a software issue. The lady told me to call into apple support and push this all the way up to the engineering team because they actually can’t do much in store except maybe sending it in for repair that will probably do absolutely nothing.
