AirPods disconnecting on calls after Phone 12 iOS 14.5.1 update

I have iPhone 12 mini and EarPods pro. Have used EarPods with my other iPhone as well and for a year had no problems or issues, every just worked. After the last update to ios14.5.1 the keep disconnecting every time I have a call. That includes WhatsApp, Skype, discord. No problem when listening to musing but the moment I want to talk to someone they go crash disconnecting and reconnecting every minute. Please help!!!

I have tried them one at the time and in different locations and the problem persists. They randomly disconnect and reconnect when I have a conversation and not when I am listening to music, books and watch videos. It seems they do that when the mic and sound should be working together. I hope this helps in identifying what went wrong with them.

I too am facing the problem after OS 14.5.1 upgrade on iPhone 12 Pro. On earlier OS versions I did not have any problem. I am a heavy user of Airpods Pro on the phone. After upgrade to 14.5.1, I see first 5 to 10 secs of every call is not audible. Then I see either the irpods Pro is disconnecting or connecting. I see this on 9/10 calls. For critical parts of day where I take regular calls, I turn off BT now. Tried all stuff like forgetting the airpods and reconnecting. trying both airpods. Checking battery level etc.

Thank you very much for the update. At least, now we know that the even “factory reset” doesn’t fix the problem. I also tried my AirPods with another iPhone. It works perfectly as usual. I also tried my iPhone with another AirPod. Another AirPod kept disconnecting exactly the same. So it’s definitely the software on the phone not the AirPods.

I tried reset all, the situation improved. Earlier the moment call connects it would hop from phone to AirPods for like 20 secs and audio would follow later, this resulted in almost 99% call drops ( as the caller would feel it did not connect). After reset all the pattern is when call connects it disconnects from AirPods and moves to handset, then in about 4 secs the AirPods get connected and we can hear audio from AirPods and after this point the AirPods never disconnect.

It worked for me, took the update today morning and immediately tried a call it worked fine for the first call. Normally when call connected the AirPods Pro will switch and again try to connect and when call connects again this happens abs after that a min or two of respite but again gets disconnected periodically. But with 14.6 my first call worked just fine. I noticed when call connected I get the drop down to select handset - speaker - AirPods mode, not sure why this is appearing but seems harmless . Maybe you have to forget the AirPods, reset them and then try again

The 14.6 update has made no difference for me either. I have also noticed that my EarPods constantly disconnect during a whatsapp call, but them seem to work fine during a normal call. Its very odd.

I was messaging Apple support for over an hour and then ended up telling me to take my earpods in to the store to be looked at. 🙈

Hi, I have the same issue. I used to work at Apple an IOS engineer so I reached out to my ex manager who filed a radar (a ticket) for us. Hopefully this will be addressed quickly, but I have no idea nor visibility.

The problem is the following:
My airpods pro keep disconnecting and reconnecting when I am on a call. It works well when listening to music. And this is only happening since I upgraded to IOS 14.6. I use my airpods pro for work at least 5 hours per day, it is extremely annoying.

Obviously I tried reseting the airpods pro, resetting my iphone, I even bought and pair of new airpods pro and completely reset my iPhone, and I am still experiencing the same issue.

I have same issue, I too use upwards of 6 to 8 hrs of usage everyday. Since the update I kept the AirPods aside! Use speaker phone. Every time when the call is setup the BT promptly disconnects, wait for about 6 to 8 secs it might try to switch back or remains in phone mode, if you try to switch to headset mode - it will not connect easily and there is often a situation where the audio is neither on the phone nor the headset. All this circus may take upwards of 20 secs and surely the caller will drop while your are yelling to hold on the call and it will settle down. If it settles down and you manage to talk on AirPods, garter some time again the same happens. Not able to understand why this isn’t being officially acknowledged. I have provided many logs for this event. Hopefully waiting for a solution.
