How to remove com.cisco.anyconnect.macos.acsockext from processes?

Dear community,

I have been trying to remove a process from my MacBook that is eating up lots of memory. It comes from cisco - I have deleted and disabled all Cisco stuff using 'Clean my Mac' and then tried resetting multiple times.

launchctl remove

sudo launchctl remove

But to no avail. Can someone help me eliminate this pesky CPU drainer? Is there something I need to do in Recovery mode?

I am on

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017) - using BigSur 11.2.3

I enlose some screenshots.

Best wishes

Matthew

Hi! Thanks again for this idea. It didn't work but I found where com.cisco.anyconnect.macos.acsockext was on my computer using 'Easyfind' app - I discovered it was in the systemextenstion folder.

Then I tried to delete it but found out it was protected file. So I launched recovery mode and disabled SPI via terminal:

csrutil disable.

Then rebooted into normal mode, deleted the file and rebooted into recovery, enabled SPI again (terminal command: csrutil disable)

Now the problem is solved and my Mac is working as normal.

Learned a lesson! Don't uninstall apps with CleanmyMac and also, don't even use Cleanmymac!

Thanks for the responses guys!

NEVER use any "cleaner" programs on your mac - and especially NOT "cleanmymac". This is poison.

You should use the proper uninstaller from cisco.

If you can't, for some reason, please run Etrecheck and post its report here, so we can tell you exactly where this thing is installed and how to remove it.

But PLEASE first uninstall this creepy "cleanmymac". You have to follow their own instructions to uninstall.

Please check if you have the following file - copy the line below, insert to spotlight ( CMD+Space ) and hit Enter.

/opt/cisco/anyconnect/bin/vpn_uninstall.sh

If this file available, open your Terminal copy and paste the line below and enter your password. This will (hope) remove anyconnect.

sudo /opt/cisco/anyconnect/bin/vpn_uninstall.sh
