I am getting the same issue - it is so frustrating. My iPhone has iOS 14.5.1

Every time I put the airtag near the phone to set it up - I get the pop-up saying. "Upgrade your account security Airtag uses end to end encryption to keep your location information private"

But with no instructions or guidance to say what that means or how to even do that.

This is the same for any of the FOUR airtags I have bought (in four pack).

  1. Make sure that your device is ready for setup.
  2. If your AirTag is new, remove the wrap around the product and then pull out the tab to activate the battery. Your AirTag will play a sound.
  3. Hold your AirTag near your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, then tap Connect.* If you have multiple AirTag and see "More than one AirTag detected", make sure only one AirTag is near your device at one time. AirTag not connecting
  4. Select an item name from the list, or select Custom Name to name your AirTag and choose an emoji. Then tap Continue.
  5. To register your AirTag with your Apple ID, tap Continue again.
  6. Tap Done.

Now you can attach your AirTag to your item and see it in the Find My app

  1. Make sure that your device is ready for setup.
  2. If you have multiple AirTags to set up, make sure only one is near your device at one time.
  3. Remove and then replace the battery in your AirTag.
  4. If your AirTag still won't connect to your device, reset your AirTag

Learn what to do if you see a message that says the AirTag is connected to another Apple ID.

Me too. Utterly frustrating lack of instructions provided by Apple (or in the pop-up) as to what to do when this message pops up. I bought a pack of four. And cannot get past this message when trying to set up my airtags. Very very frustrating.

Below is a screenshot of the message. But as said, it provides no clarity on what it actually wants you to do. It just provides a link to Apple ID settings. And there is nothing obvious to change or set up when you get there.
