MacBook Pro 13 inches 2017 turn off unexpectedly

My Macbook pro 13 inches turn off before out of battery. I think possibly it because SMC working not normally. I went to ICare and they tell me to replace new batteries and some hardware control about 600 dollars. I have no problem to paying, but I think it can fix before replace and I want to know what is the problem exactly before replace since I am a computer science. I think I will go to Apple store instead of ICare and ask them at Genius bar.

First, my battery health is normal condition.

Second, I think battery progress doesn't work normally. For example, when I charge it more after 100%, the percentage doesn't decrease for 3 hours or more.

The problem seems to if I can reset the percentage of the battery back to the right place, it will be okay.

I follow this and tried to do as youget246 recommend. My MBP back to normal.

I charge it 100% for 3 hours and then I shut down and I did reset SMC. After that, the progress percentage of batteries back to normal. After all, my MBP doesn't turn off again.

Thank you a lot.

Try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected. A passing diagnostic does not mean there are no issues.

If you have the non-Touchbar model see if the laptop qualifies for this free Apple battery repair program:

https://support.apple.com/13inch-macbookpro-battery-replacement

If you have the non-Touchbar model, then here is another free repair program for the SSD you definitely should check out to if the laptop qualifies:

https://support.apple.com/13-inch-macbook-pro-solid-state-drive-service

FYI, here is the current list of the publicly acknowledged free repair programs for various Apple products (some products such as your laptop have multiple programs):

It never hurts to get a second opinion at another authorized repair shop or Apple Store. The quality and knowledge of techs can vary greatly between locations.

Always have frequent and regular backups. FYI, it is impossible to recover accidentally deleted data from an SSD after the Trash has been emptied plus an SSD can fail at any time without any warning signs (which is why I recommend checking if your laptop qualifies for the free SSD repair program).
