HomePod is working fine. I can airplay to it from my iPhone and my old MacBook.

however, with my new M1 Mac mini, I can't airplay anything to the HomePod mini. Not movies, not Spotify. the file continues playing, but no sound comes out.

I have a same problem since update to MacOS 11.3. It was good with MacOS 11.2.1 or below. My macbook pro (Intel), Iphone, Ipad are working just fine. I have one homepod mini.

Here are what I did to work around:

  • I had to reboot after not in use or sleep for more than 5 hours.
  • I found Airplayxchelper can be force killed within Active Monitor and the Airplay to homepod mini will work again when select homepod mini.

Hey there! I have been having the same problem with my M1 Mac mini (running macOS Big Sur 11.4) and my HomePod mini (currently on 14.6). I didn't do the hard reset on the HomePod mini but restarting my Mac mini did the trick for me. I tend to always keep my Mac mini on (and on sleep whenever I am not using) so doing a restart worked somehow. I don't know whether this was an M1-device issue but it seems fixed for now. It seems like the obvious answer to just do a "restart" but I am curious as to whether it will work for you. Please let me know!

I have this issue: new iMac 24" M1, just updated to latest Big Sur 11.5; 3 HomePods, just updated to latest 14.7. iPhone / iPad play fine to HomePods.

iMac / Apple Music has had all the issues described here.

Seems related to the iMac going to sleep - before this, it works fine from within Music app (Airplay icon, select one or more HomePods) or from Control Centre. After Sleep, plays for 5 secs, then sound stops.

Force Quite AirPlayXPCHelper and quit / re-open Music, and it now works again.

Send iMac to sleep, wake it up, problem is back.

It's not an issue on my Intel MacBook Pro, so I think it is categorically an M1 chip mac issue, given people on this and other threads are having issues with M1 Mini / MacBook and iMac.

Maybe Monterey will solve it. I've toyed with re-installing Big Sur OS, but haven't gone that far yet - interested if any others have solved through this method.

Having this issue since they introduced lossless, not sure what MacOS version that was.

Anyways that is from my Mac mini M1, if he sleeps then it is game over. I have to kill the Coreadaudiod + XCPAirplay processes and it works again.

Funny thing I just bought a HomePod mini, and same issue...

And the other funny thing is I don't have this issue from my MacBook Air M1 with the same M1 processor.

I made several topics, feedback reports etc but no reply or fix.

What I've found works for me running MacOS 12.0.1 with HomePod mini 15.1.1 is when there's no audio, put the Mac mini to sleep then immediately wake it and the audio normally works.

I was on with support yesterday and I can recreate the error and they think it may be a bonjour issue in 12.0.1

To recreate I airplay from Apple Music/Mac mini control centre. Then I put the Mac into sleep. Wake it and there's no audio. Put it back to sleep and immediately wake it and the audio via airplay works again.

Hoping for a real fix soon though.

Its bizarre I have had my MacBook pro for 14 months and since I go the HomePod Mini in July 2021 it worked fine, but just tried to play music from MacBook through to HomePod Mini and there was no sound, yet the Mini works from my iPhone. So I followed the advice in this thread and opened Activity Monitor on my Mac, then Quit Activity Monitor, then went back into Music and the sound now plays through my Mini. So it works ! Thanks for the tip

This got fixed on my m1 iMac a rev or two back in the Mac OS X updates. So I can stream to HomePod just fine now. It is also working in the latest, 11.6.

One thing that seemed to help fix the issue was to connect to the HomePod speakers via the control widget (or whatever you call it, the thingy in the menubar that controls display brightness, sound etc. in OS X 11. Looks like the control thingy on the iPhone you get when you swipe down in the upper corner) That seemed to have nudged the streaming for me the first time and it is still working. You might try connecting to the HomePod from there or the SysPrefs and try sending sound (not iTunes/Music) through it a few times. One that works, try launching Music and playing it. That seems to be the magic that got mine working.
