Battery drain on iOS 14.6
my battery life on iOS 14.6 is terrible… is it just me or anyone is experiencing this thing too??
my battery life on iOS 14.6 is terrible… is it just me or anyone is experiencing this thing too??
So after putting up with this issue of the App Store using around 50% of my battery each day for nearly two weeks (and with activity levels at 100% every hour, with almost all of it in the background) I contacted apple support online chat. They suggested a few things that I had already tried and so we went to the full restore whilst the phone is plugged into a computer. So I reset my phone 11 via my Mac (following their instructions) and then I restored via iCloud backup .
I have now had ten hours of normal battery behaviour; usually by this point in the day my iPhone would be nearly dead. It is still on 56% 👍🏻👏🏻
So if anyone on here is struggling with battery life since iOS 14.6 was released and has tried a number of things but not yet tried the full restore plugged into a computer (which is better than an untethered restore according to the apple support chat representative) then I would urge you try it. Yes, it is a pain resetting the phone and waiting for it to restore from backup (and I now need to reconfigure my banking apps and wallet) - but I'm very happy that the problem seems to be resolved.
Cheers
Same here, very disappointing - aren't these issues discovered during beta testing?
Battery life is unacceptable - I’m recharging. 5-6 times a day!!!
And it's not podcast, and I've done a soft reset.
And I have hardly anything running in the background
Yes I found the same thing when I put my phone on Airplane mode, but what is the point to have a phone you can’t do anything with? So I agree it’s not a solution.
Apple needs to acknowledge the problem and fix it !
I have had to constantly charge my phone since the update. I cannot say that it’s any one app that drains it faster because it doesn’t really matter what I am doing or using the battery drains extremely fast. I used to not have to worry about my phone dying on me but it has died on me several times because of the battery drainage issue
I have now tried backing up, resetting and restoring the iPad Mini (5) and it has made no difference in the rapid battery drain. I will try shutting down some of the apps, but so far that has not made a difference. The battery has gone from 82% to 40% in 3 hours, just while standing by.
We really need a fix, and soon!
Here's the frustrating part. I have called in. During the 14.6 beta cycle, I filed multiple bug reports and continue to do so on iOS 15.
Nothing has been done. Not sure who else I'm supposed to reach out to.
Hello,
I have the same problem, the battery is draining at a crazy speed and especially my iPhone is overheating.
I play Epic Seven a lot and after 5 minutes the iPhone is already very hot, after 20 to 30 minutes it gets hot.
I hope Apple will quickly implement a solution because I am afraid of damaging my iPhone.
Have a nice day.
Communication at Apple is even worse than I thought. They may write everything down, and make careful notes and tickets, but it appears that no one reads the notes until the next time you call; and certainly no one evaluates or responds to the issues raised. At least not to those raising them.
I am experiencing severe battery charge level problems, as in my previous posts, which started with the .4 update. To try to get some help, I started with a chat where I was told no one at Apple had been notified of this problem, even when I told them that there were numerous reports on the Forum.
I followed up with the Genius Bar. They noticed the battery drain, especially when it went down 10% in 20 min. They said tests indicated the battery was fine.
I followed their suggestion and backed up and restored from my computer.
No change.
I called Apple. After long discussions and much reading of notes from previous visits they said the battery was bad and I should return to the Genius Bar for a new battery at $99 replacement cost.
at the Genius Bar last Wednesday they said I could not replace the battery on my iPad Mini 5 since it tested good, so my choice was to buy a new iPad or try a complete update in the store and then reload my apps and data at home.
With limited choices, we completely erased the iPad and loaded a new .4 OS.
I have now restored many of my apps and some data, but the battery drain is as bad as ever.
I am reaching my frustration limit. Has anyone heard from Apple about this issue and any resolution or even acknowledgement?
I just got the 12 Max Pro maybe two months ago, I loved it switched from Samsung because of the battery. I could use this phone for almost 2.5 days without charging. Now It doesn't even make it a full day. I'm really disappointed. I got this because I haven't bought a actual new phone since Galaxy 5. I do a lot of craft shows and I need my phone for payments and I hated having to charge it every hour. I don't listen to Podcast, play games, and I try to turn the Air play off. I don't know what else to do. I'm really really disappointed right now, and I got rid of my fitbit watch and got the Apple 6 to go with my new phone.. :( Come on Apple...Please FIX!!! I was so happy!!!
Let's see... who should I believe...someone who doesn't seem to understand the differences between the electrochemistry of a NiCad and a Lithium Ion battery and who believes that including a battery health indicator was some sort of conspiracy to make people buy new phones? Or an engineer with 50+ years of experience?
Thanks.
ALL my app refresh are turn off. Most of them are inactive anyway, I don’t use social média. Find my phone is off.
My battery is always on economy mode. I don’t listen to podcast anymore!
And with all of that effort I still have to charge my phone twice a day, it use to be one every 36 hours!!
So what is your verdict ? Did Overcast solve your problem?
I just download Overcast because my battery couldn’t take an other week of Apple Podcast. Hopefully it will solve my battery problem when I listen to a podcast.
Yes I tried this. I’ve been to the Apple store had long conversation with the staff, they reset my phone, I installed everything from the beginning and nothing changed. I’ve been told that there won’t be any update at the moment.
Like you propose Adam, today I have made a complaint at : https://www.apple.com/feedback/. I think this is my second message since I updated to iOS 14.6. No answer from Apple the first time!
Like you said it is the only way to let Apple know how dissatisfied and disappointed we are with the iOS 14.6 update, but will it change anything? Apple is doesn’t have a good track record for the customer service with battery issues. They never acknowledge the problem they cause to their users. Very bad service!

Apple is very clear that they do not respond to things posted on the Feedback page.
This battery drain is so annoying, I always have to have a charger with me every time I go out and I’d rather off having a battery that lasts a decent amount of time without the use of chargers. Btw I have iPhone 12 and I don’t use it much
