The day I did the update to 14.6, I went to bed with 87% battery, I listened for 1 hour (sleep mode) of à download podcast my battery was at 3% when I woke up!

Like you said, this update was supposed to add functions to the app podcasts and it’s a disaster!

Apple should offer a solution ASAP but they don’t acknowledge the problem.

I have an appointment at the Genius Bar Monday, will see what they say…

So after putting up with this issue of the App Store using around 50% of my battery each day for nearly two weeks (and with activity levels at 100% every hour, with almost all of it in the background) I contacted apple support online chat. They suggested a few things that I had already tried and so we went to the full restore whilst the phone is plugged into a computer. So I reset my phone 11 via my Mac (following their instructions) and then I restored via iCloud backup .

I have now had ten hours of normal battery behaviour; usually by this point in the day my iPhone would be nearly dead. It is still on 56% 👍🏻👏🏻

So if anyone on here is struggling with battery life since iOS 14.6 was released and has tried a number of things but not yet tried the full restore plugged into a computer (which is better than an untethered restore according to the apple support chat representative) then I would urge you try it. Yes, it is a pain resetting the phone and waiting for it to restore from backup (and I now need to reconfigure my banking apps and wallet) - but I'm very happy that the problem seems to be resolved.

Cheers

Hi,

thanks for sharing but I tried this procedure last week and it didn’t solve the problem.

Like you I have call Apple assistance and while on the call we tried many tests and I did a full restauration with my MacBook pro.

Unfortunately for me it didn’t solve the problem… So I am hoping that my visit at the Genius Bar tomorrow will help !

Oh that’s frustrating Did you restore from your iCloud backup after the wipe?

If you did then I think the only other thing to try would be to do another wipe / reinstall of iOS via your mac and then just set the phone up as a new phone and run it like that for the day. If you still have a problem then it is either an iOS bug or a hardware issue.

If you don’t have an issue then you will know that there is either corruption in iOS (is this possible?) or an app of configuration issue that is part of your iCloud backup.

You could then try resetting all settings in the iPhone reset menu too.

Sorry if you have already tried the above. Hopefully the App Store appointment gets it sorted! 🤞🏻

I have not deleted the apple podcasts app but have simply stopped using it and have been using an alternate podcast app (pocketcasts) and this has for now resolved the excessive battery drain. It is not ideal however as it means I cant use my carefully curated over the past many years apple podcast library. Surely apple can get this sorted as in my case the excessive battery drain is definitely being caused by the podcast app and it they cant get their own app to work on their own device what kind of company are they.

As I have mentioned previously my main reason in purchasing my iphone SE was to continue using my apple podcast library built up across previous iPod and iPod touches over the past 15 years.

Before iOS 14.6, battery health was 100%. 12 Pro Max and now it’s 96%. Phone is only 7 months old. By end of the day 30% battery left and that’s after having plugged it in the car for small trips (1/2h max) for CarPlay.

This is a shockingly bad state of affairs. Surely there must be a fix on the horizon.

Can’t ignore posters and magazines picking up on this surely?

I, too, have been having significant battery issue since the update to 14.6.

I always have to keep a charger around (or more precisely keep my self around a charging power outlet) since a 40 mins video call with my friends took a whopping 40% of battery!

The battery health also dropped a few percentages right after the update, down to 79% which prompted a battery replacement.

Of course, the few percentage drop in battery health could have never caused such a dramatic battery drain, so I was relieved to find out that many other people are also having the same issue and that this was rather sth wrong with the OS.

Really looking forward to a prompt fix or at least workaround for this issue.

I have had to constantly charge my phone since the update. I cannot say that it’s any one app that drains it faster because it doesn’t really matter what I am doing or using the battery drains extremely fast. I used to not have to worry about my phone dying on me but it has died on me several times because of the battery drainage issue
