Since iOS 14.6 update iPhone's battery drains while my smart battery case remains fully charged

I just updated my iPhone 7 to iOS 14.6 and since then the iPhone's battery drains while my smart battery case remains fully charged (ps. I did try all the steps stated in other articles).

Does anyone have a similar problem? if so do you have any solution?

Yes indeed. Had reported this issue at Apple Support. After iOS 14.6, the smart battery indicator no longer appears at lock screen the moment u plug in/unplug the charging cord, and the iPhone apparently draws power from the internal battery instead of the case. Remove/re-attach the case seems to be the temporary solution. The issue did not occur prior to iOS 14.6, i really believe it’s a iOS bug. Hope Apple Team could investigate & rectify it asap as it’s quite a serious issue.

Solution that worked for me:

I shut my iPhone down and removed the smart battery case.

I, then, reattached the iPhone (still shut down) into the battery case and let it reboot by itself (it's automatic).

The smart battery case still doesn't show up when charging, but it works and you can see its percentage in the notification center.

Hope this helps!

Hi I have the SE 2020 and I was using a smart battery case (the I phone 7 one) and it completely stopped working with the 14.7 update. I could get it to recognize that the case was there with some of the hacks people suggested on this page, like pulling it in and out of the case, turning it on and off, but no matter what I did it would not kick in. So as soon as my phone battery died, my phone died.

14.7.1 completely solved the problem. It works perfect now, just like before, no issues. I ran it as soon as it came out and others o here told me about it.

I have exactly the same issue & not happy with apple for allowing it to happen. I charge my iphone 7 up and when the charge cable is disconnected the iphone used it’s own battery instead of the case. Before the 14.6 update it was the other way round, which was great. The update has made it crap putting it mildly. I’ve only got two solutions. None of them particularly great but here it is

  1. when the power cable is disconnected, slide the iphone 7 out of it’s battery case enough to disconnect the cases power plug and then slide the iphone 7 back into it’s case. Then use your fingerprint to authorise the cases use. When this is done iphone 7 uses the battery case as the primary battery power.
  2. Turn the iphone 7 on and completely restart the iphone 7.

The only trouble is even after you’ve followed the steps mentioned and they have worked through the day fine. Once you plug the iphone 7 back into it’s charger you have to repeat the steps mentioned again. Hence why I’m not too happy with Apple about it.

I too have exactly the same problem. I found a consistent workaround though. Every time I charge the phone I power cycle it and it works fine. No need to remove the case, just turning the phone on and off works for me anyway. This has to be done every time you charge using the charger.

Pretty sad there is no word from Apple yet and we have to figure out these workarounds on our own.

I was planning to upgrade my iPhone7 but I’m having real reservations since this latest upgrade.

Apple iPhone 7, Apple Smart Battery Case, exactly the same problem, before installing iOS 14.6 everything worked correctly, after installing iOS 14.6, when charging and the iPhone was turned on from standby mode, the main screen displays only one iPhone battery status, before iOS 14.6 it showed the battery status of Apple smart battery case and status battery of iPhone, it is correct, now after each charging, i need to remove the iPhone from the Apple smart battery case and put it back so that it correctly to consume the battery of the Apple smart battery case first and after that it uses up the iPhone's battery and not first the iPhone's battery and the Apple smart battery case is just waiting for something, all problems started immediately after installing the iOS 14.6 update and nothing not related to the hardware that has been used in this pair for more than one year without any problems, please release the next iOS update fixing this malfunction iOS 14.6

I had the same issue. Seems to happen when both the smart battery case and the iPhone 7 battery are fully charged. I let the iPhone battery run down to about 90% and then I reboot the iPhone. When it restarts, the iPhone battery starts to recharge up to 100% and the iPhone continues to run off the smart battery case. No need to remove the iPhone from the smart battery case.

  1. Just found on another site which (keeping fingers crossed) seems to be helping (as the battery case is starting to charge the phone). The advice was to

1. Turn on your charging case. When, or if, the error appears, just dismiss it.

2. Turn ON Airplane Mode.

3. Turn OFF your phone by pressing the sleep/wake button until the screen turns black and a slider appears. Leave the device off for 1-2 minutes.

4. Switch your iPhone ON by holding down the sleep/wake button again, then, turn airplane mode OFF.

Hopefully this will continue to work.

this is a temporary fix that works until you connect and disconnect the power supply for charging, it is much easier and much faster after disconnecting the charging cable to slightly push the phone out of the smart case, before disconnecting the connector and inserting it back, press the home button to unlock and activate the accessory, it takes 5 seconds, it works exactly the same until the next connection of the power cable for charging.

Still no resolution but the workaround right now is when you take it off the charger in the morning slide the phone out of the case just to where it disconnects and push it right back in and it works as normal until you put it back on the charger again so you’ll have to do it the next morning. It’s working for me it’s not much of an inconvenience since my battery lasts all day it takes all of five seconds.

I'm glad I found this thread, I thought I was going nuts, okay so I'm late to the iOS party, upgraded from iOS 13 to iOS 14.6, because I needed to install an App which required 14.6.

and now like reported, I also notice that the battery does not appear on lock screen, only on the widget, and oddly it's always at 100% !

and the internal battery drains, away to nothing, but battery case (official) is at 100%.

Unplug the case and re-insert, and the phone starts charging again, and internal battery increases in charge, as the battery case, decreases in charge as it should, as it did on iOS 13.x

So glad it's a bug, now come on Apple fecking fix it.
