Since iOS 14.6 update iPhone's battery drains while my smart battery case remains fully charged

I just updated my iPhone 7 to iOS 14.6 and since then the iPhone's battery drains while my smart battery case remains fully charged (ps. I did try all the steps stated in other articles).

Does anyone have a similar problem? if so do you have any solution?

Yes indeed. Had reported this issue at Apple Support. After iOS 14.6, the smart battery indicator no longer appears at lock screen the moment u plug in/unplug the charging cord, and the iPhone apparently draws power from the internal battery instead of the case. Remove/re-attach the case seems to be the temporary solution. The issue did not occur prior to iOS 14.6, i really believe it’s a iOS bug. Hope Apple Team could investigate & rectify it asap as it’s quite a serious issue.

Same here! I have the second generation SE. My phone will die before the battery kicks in. The only way to get it to work is to partially remove the case and then plug the battery case back in. Takes a couple of seconds but is kind of annoying to do every time. Could see how it could be useful for some other folks who wished this smart battery case had an on and off button to turn on only when they need the extras juice. I prefer to leave my battery topped off in the conventional manner before this update.

I use my phone as a rain noise box at night while I sleep. I leave the phone charging in the smart case. One night, the phone died while charging and my rain noise stopped, subsequently. When I turned my phone on, the battery case was fully charged but the phone was complete dead. I thought this could be a problem with my smart case but it seems like everyone is having the same problem. Please fix this problem in update 14.7! Thanks

I have the exact same problem. Im using an official apple battery case for an iPhone 8 and after it updatet to ios 14.6 my battery case is not being used by the phone. A temporary fix is to shutdown the iPhone and reinsert it into the battery case but its very annoying that i have to do this every morning! And also battery drain in general seems to have been increased. I would usually end the day with about 50% power left on my phone. After ios 14.6 update I am usually down to about 10-20%.

i hope apple fixes this fast! Not supporting their own official accessories is a big screwup…

Yes they essentially took the smart out of the smart battery case and made it dumb. Now it just treats the battery case as if you are plugging it in to any wall charger. Then after you are all charged up the the smarts are all gone and it forgets about the case until you detach then re attach. Glad I got back to 14.5.1 to wait for a fix that totally has to be coming in the next update.

i have the same problem, it happened after the update, the percentage doesn't show up now, and the case will not work, unless i do a hack. the Hack is: 1) Go to settings 2) turn on 'Airplane Mode' 3) turn off Airplane mode 4) power down the iPhone 5) power up the iPhone. Now the phone recognizes the case and drains the case first and when it is drained, the iPhone uses the phones battery. I do hope Apple Tech will see this and fix this flaw.

your option is very long, try every time after disconnecting the power cable, remove the iPhone from the smart case before disconnecting the connector and insert it back with subsequent unlocking to activate the accessory, it takes much less time (and yes, this is also a temporary fix, we are waiting for updates from Apple)

On my phone SE 2020 model :

all I do I charge it as normal overnight . Sometime in the morning I will pull the phone from the case. Wait ten seconds and put it back. Now you will see the lightning bolt by the battery symbol. The phone is now being charged by the case.

it’s not the way it worked before the update to 14.6, but at least the case it’s being recognized by the phone .

NOTE: several people with different models are having the same issue . The phones are all acting different so what works for me may not work for you so you may want to keep digging for other answers to see what will work with your phone .

I have the same exact issue with my Iphone 8 and smart battery case since upgrade to iOS 14.6.

Both batteries have been replaced recently too. Within the last 2 months...

Internal battery is only shown after removing from charging cable. Internal battery drains and external one is never used unless you do as listed before:

Unplugging case and plugging back into Iphone recharges drained internal battery.

Definitely a bug introduced with iOS 14.6.

Please fix Apple. Thank you.

Hmmm. . . I also have the SE 2020 and I updated to the 14.7 as soon as it came out and it solved the problem no more issues with the smart case. How old is your smart case? I was having some issues with my old smart case when I first got my 2020 it would not charge while on my phone unless I used the genuine able cable with the genuine apple charging block, which was annoying. I had had that one for so many years so I picked up another one for under $100 on amazon and it’s as fine. Maybe it’s the case? I would take it into he apple store if you can.
