Since iOS 14.6 update iPhone's battery drains while my smart battery case remains fully charged

I just updated my iPhone 7 to iOS 14.6 and since then the iPhone's battery drains while my smart battery case remains fully charged (ps. I did try all the steps stated in other articles).

Does anyone have a similar problem? if so do you have any solution?

Yes indeed. Had reported this issue at Apple Support. After iOS 14.6, the smart battery indicator no longer appears at lock screen the moment u plug in/unplug the charging cord, and the iPhone apparently draws power from the internal battery instead of the case. Remove/re-attach the case seems to be the temporary solution. The issue did not occur prior to iOS 14.6, i really believe it’s a iOS bug. Hope Apple Team could investigate & rectify it asap as it’s quite a serious issue.

Mono, are you certain that your problem is actually fixed? My phone also shows the case, and show it being charged, but it seems to think the phone is the case and vice versa when it comes to using power. In other words, using the case, it will go into low power mode at 20 percent phone battery while the case remains at 100 percent, completely unused. It always used to keep the phone at 100 percent until the case was used; now it’s doing the opposite and powering the phone down first. We never get to actually use the power in the case; the phone will completely power off first. If you allow your phone to sit long enough to start to get low, see if this is happening for you too, please.

I have the exact same problem. Im using an official apple battery case for an iPhone 8 and after it updatet to ios 14.6 my battery case is not being used by the phone. A temporary fix is to shutdown the iPhone and reinsert it into the battery case but its very annoying that i have to do this every morning! And also battery drain in general seems to have been increased. I would usually end the day with about 50% power left on my phone. After ios 14.6 update I am usually down to about 10-20%.

i hope apple fixes this fast! Not supporting their own official accessories is a big screwup…

I too have exactly the same problem. I found a consistent workaround though. Every time I charge the phone I power cycle it and it works fine. No need to remove the case, just turning the phone on and off works for me anyway. This has to be done every time you charge using the charger.

Pretty sad there is no word from Apple yet and we have to figure out these workarounds on our own.

I was planning to upgrade my iPhone7 but I’m having real reservations since this latest upgrade.

My iPhone 11 did the same thing. It appears my phone remains 100% charged and the case gets depleted. I know this because I can charge the case independently of the phone. Apple really screwed this up. I hope the developers will fix this soon. I sometimes use more than a days worth of charge for what I do. I will try some of the solutions presented here.

Apple iPhone 7, Apple Smart Battery Case, exactly the same problem, before installing iOS 14.6 everything worked correctly, after installing iOS 14.6, when charging and the iPhone was turned on from standby mode, the main screen displays only one iPhone battery status, before iOS 14.6 it showed the battery status of Apple smart battery case and status battery of iPhone, it is correct, now after each charging, i need to remove the iPhone from the Apple smart battery case and put it back so that it correctly to consume the battery of the Apple smart battery case first and after that it uses up the iPhone's battery and not first the iPhone's battery and the Apple smart battery case is just waiting for something, all problems started immediately after installing the iOS 14.6 update and nothing not related to the hardware that has been used in this pair for more than one year without any problems, please release the next iOS update fixing this malfunction iOS 14.6

I updated my iPhone 11 to 14.6. Same issues as noted. In the past when this happened I could remove case and then reinstall and not have problems until the next iOS update. Not with 14.6. Time spent with tech trying many different things to no avail. Advised I would have to wait for a future update. As others have noted the case removal and reinstall will temporarily partially fix the issue, but it returns with the next charge cycle.

I just discovered with my iPhone 11 Pro Max that the phone AND the Apple battery case seem to be charging when together and the power cord is only attached to the case.

Last week I noticed I could charge the battery case independently of the phone and vice versa. Each could fully charge (plugged in). The case while charging displayed an orange light and when fully charged changed to green.

As evident from all the posts it seems the phone is being charged and not the battery case. Indeed my 11 is showing 100% charged all the time. Yesterday my phone was used quite a bit and habit made me recharge the phone in the battery case over night. I thought, idiot, you know there’s a problem!” I removed the phone from the case, plugged in the case only and found to my joy, the charging light was green! I repeated the experiment with the same result.

if you have an 11 PRO MAX and the genuine Apple battery case give it a try. I will report back if anything changes. If both can simultaneously charge consistently then it is a software bug for this iPhone combo. I cannot speak for other iPhones/battery case combinations.

Good luck and I hated removing the phone all the time and smudging my camera lens!

Same problem, also with iPhone7. However, in my case I put the whole system in charge overnight (phone switched on in the case, case plugged on power) and then I put the power cable out of the case, plug out the phone from the case and plug it in again without switching it off and the system starts behaving as before the dreadful update iOS 14.6.

Since iOS 14.6 update iPhone's battery drains while my smart battery case remains fully charged
