Apple Music lossless audio

Can I stream lossless content from my Mac or iPhone via AirPlay to an external network streamer (e.g. Cambridge Audio CXN)? Or is a wired connection absolutely necessary?

It may depend on the capabilities of the device, but it seems that AirPlay can support lossless playback up to 24-bit/48 kHz. Hi-res lossless with bitrates above 48 kHz likely rely on wired connections to external DACs.
