hi I am receiving an error message when opening a jar file

There are two ways to authorize the app to run. The easiest method is to right-click or Control-click on the .jar file and select "Open" from the pop-up context menu and follow the prompts which will require you to provide your admin password. Or you can launch System Preferences, go to the Security & Privacy pane and click the "Allow Anyway" button near the bottom right to tell Gatekeeper to allow this app to run.

However, make sure you absolutely trust this app and this developer before telling Gatekeeper to make an exception to the security settings. Also make sure you acquired the program from a legitimate source. Usually you only want to acquire software from the developer's own website since other websites (even legit download sites that centralize downloads) have been known to inject some nasty surprises into an otherwise safe app.
