MacBook hard case

Hi! I’m purchasing the latest MacBook Air m1 shortly, and I have been shopping around for accessories, one of them is a clear hard case for the macbook, now I have seen multiple people say that over time the case can scratch and damage the macbook and make the hinges misaligned over time! Is this true? And same with the keyboard cover! Apparently it can harm the screen?

The thing is Apple sells MacBook shell covers them self, why would they sell something that can damage the device? All though I am still very skeptic about it, not sure what to do I just want to protect the macbook from scratches

Based on Personal Experience:

  • Hardshell Cases: They can get a crack in them, and they make the device overheat
  • Keyboard Covers: Condensation condenses on the LogicBoard, and then the screen and other connectors become loose, and corrode
  • Screen Covers: Debris gathers on it, and then when you close the screen it falls underneath the keyboard.

So, what I Use on my 2018 15" MacBook Pro:

On Amazon: MOSISO Compatible with MacBook Pro 15 inch Case, Wine Red

Most definitely do not use a screen protector and/or keyboard cover. The tolerances are so tight when closing the M1 MacBook Air that there is very little if any room for either with the scenario of damaging the screen in a very short period of time.

Also, plastic hard shell cases are very good insulators and will hold the heat in that is generated by the MacBook Air and particularly when the batteries are charging.

I definitely understand how the screen protector could ruin it, a screen protector on a laptop just seems weird.. so I have no problem with that seeing as I wasn’t going to put one on it anyway! So with the keyboard cover it doesn’t seem to be an issue until you close the macbook, correct? So if I used it while typing then took it off before closing it would be fine?

And that’s what I also thought about the hard shell covers! People have said overtime it’s misaligned there hinges tho.. I definitely don’t want that. But thanks for helping 😄

A Personal Experience:

I'm referring to a 2010 MacBook Pro that had all of that stuff on it. Eventually, it was diagnosed, and the screen was found to have failed because it had water condensing in to droplets, eventually loosening different connectors. So, nowadays, I let it cool for a few after use, and then place it in the case I found Amazon: MOSISO Compatible with MacBook Pro 15 inch Case, Wine Red. So, I'm fine without all of that stuff that Apple sells --not a scratch anywhere. Perhaps consider the same - your call.
