Can only get stereo sound from ATV 4k to Denon AVR X6500H

I've triple-checked the instructions in the Apple TV Atmos support article. I have a high-quality HDMI cable and have tried multiple HDMI inputs. Settings are current in the ATV for Atmos and quick start. I'm not plugged into the ARC input (TV is connected to ARC). I've restarted the ATV multiple times. No matter what I try, the Denon only sees PCM stereo input which makes me think the problem is with the ATV. Samsung TV input sends a Dolby signal just fine so I know the Denon can handle it and work. Is there any way to see what the Apple TV thinks it is trying to send to the output? How else can you troubleshoot this kind of problem which seems pretty common?

Apple TV defaults to PCM Multichannel format output. PCM does not indicate stereo, but uncompressed.

Apple TV outputs Atmos in Dolby MAT format, which aligns with Format: Auto (uncompressed PCM Multichannel). Verify with the receiver manufacturer about support for Dolby MAT, and any optional firmware requirements for that (depending on age).
