AppleTV 4K With HomePod pair causing Apple Music not to work

I have the most recent AppleTV 4K and a stereo pair of original HomePods. They play Atmos audio perfectly, but after awhile, when I ask Siri to play a song (without the TV), the playback fails “I’m sorry there was a problem with Apple Music.” I can solve this problem by unpairing the stereo pair and re-pairing them, but if I’m not home the rest of the family cannot listen to music until I get home to fix it.

I have currently had to disable AppleTV output to the HomePods which is really disappointing.

I can’t use mine as default audio either. I AirPlay to them while watching apple tv because my automations that use HomePods won’t trigger. I keep hoping every software update will fix this and I’ve submitted feedback but it never gets fixed. Might be because the big HomePods are discontinued.

Please let Apple know by using: Feedback - Apple TV - Apple. I’ve been submitting HomePod feedback which could be getting ignored. It’s possible in iOS 15 around September they will be allowing minis to use this setting. Who knows if it will be the same issue. Like you, I’ve tested this. I will go right into my home app and disable it via the ATV icon, then test automation and voila it works. I’ve not noticed it with Apple Music though in your scenario. My automations were set to wake me up with Apple Music playlists on several HomePods throughout my house. As well as an evening one to go to sleep with.
