Scam text!!

Hi,

yesterday morning I received a delivery text claiming to be from dpd and I clicked the link as I was due a delivery this week and I had just woken up so I wasn’t very alert. The link led me to a website which asked for £1.99 and a form for my personal details. I did not enter any personal details, as I started to think it was a scam. So I copy and pasted the delivery tracking number on the website and opened the actual dpd page and the tracking number wasn’t real. Since then, I cleared my browsing history and I blocked the number and deleted the message. I am getting quite anxious as I’m afraid that clicking on the link could have put my iPhone at risk. Is this possible? Can clicking on the link put my iPhone at risk of hacking or a virus and can It harm my WiFi and devices connected to my WiFi? I’m super anxious about all of this and I’m unsure about what to do. I usually am quite alert about phishing texts and this time I wasn’t. I would really appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

Good that you have not provided any personal details. Mere clicking a link will not pose any risk of data loss/theft from your device. Clicking on a link only sends information to the sender that the phone number or email ID is a valid address. So you will keep receiving more of such links. That's it.

You are fine. Clicking on a website link is simply going to take you to the website that it is linked with. This was a phishing attempt. The idea behind this scam is to take the user to a fake but real looking website. Once there then the user is prompted to insert their credentials which are then captured by the perpetrator for his/her own use. You did not enter anything so you are fine and nothing further is needed for you to do.
