I an creating a slideshow on the photos app but cannot get the music to play. Ive set up but there is no sound when the slideshow plays.

Where are you getting the music from. Which music are you wanting to use?
If it is not available also on your mac, you cannot transfer it from your ipad. You also cannot use it if it is DRM protected (Which means music from streaming services are not available)
You should be able to use music you've ripped from CDs' or purchased in iTunes. Or the standard slideshow theme music. Or royalty free music you've added to iTunes.

Thanks. Problem solved first by authorizing in Apple Music and then shutting down the computer. All working fine now
