iPhone’s battery life dropped from 100 to 98 in a year

Is it alright if an iphone’s battery life drops from 100 to 98 in a year? And if the iphone consumes a lot of battery while still not being used and on energy saving mode?

What you should do:
. Don’t overcharge your phone if you’re not gonna use it
. I don’t charge my phone over 80%
. I charge my phone twice maximum a day
. Always have energy saving mode and dark mode on
. Don’t use it while it’s charging
. You should remove both location services and background app refresh
That’s what i did, hope it helps !

That is not the best charging strategy, but it’s not bad. The absolute best way to slow the decline of battery capacity long term is to enable Optimized Battery Charging (Settings/Battery/Battery Health) and charge the device overnight, every night. The battery will fast charge to 80%, then pause. During the nighttime pause the phone will use mains power instead of battery power, allowing the battery to “rest”, and thus reducing the need to charge the battery quite as often. The phone will resume charging to reach 100% when you are ready to use your phone; it will “learn” your usage pattern. If you enable iCloud Backup (Settings/[your name]/iCloud - iCloud Backup) the phone will back up overnight also, assuring that you can never lose more than the current day’s updates.

You're welcome. Many would be quite jealous of such minimal Battery Health loss in 12 months. Keep in mind that batteries are consumable parts. Battery Health will decline little by little with every full cycle charge. Its what batteries do. ALL BATTERIES. When Battery Health dips to 80% or less, it will then be time to have the battery replaced in your phone. You are quite a long way away from that happening on your phone.

. By overcharging i mean charging it without any purpose: if you’re not gonna use it, it’s basically all wasted battery. life battery goes along with charging cycles and you’re doing unnecessary charging cycles if you’re not gonna use the phone - in other words, even if your phone isn’t being used it’s battery is decreasing
. That’s exactly what i meant, as far as i know the less you charge the better
. Of course! I was just sharing my experience. No matter how much i use it i only charge it twice a day
. I got to know by an apple assistant that energy saving mode does help the battery life, you just have to turn it off while charging
. I’ve heard that using the phone while charging overheats the phone and causes battery degradation
. Of course you can turn these functions on when you need it, as they consume a lot of battery

For whatever reason, I failed to recognize you are the OP and this is your daily routine. It's working for you, thus far, which is terrific, but it's honestly not necessary.

I plug my iPhone 12 Pro Max into charge when I go to sleep at night, every night, all night long. Battery Health on my phone is 98 as well after 10 months use. I don't do any of the things you're suggesting. They're honestly not necessary.

  • An iPhone cannot be overcharged
  • Not charging over 80% makes absolutely no difference, except to ensure you have less than a full days charge on your phone
  • An iPhone can be charged anytime for as long as one wants to charge it
  • It is NOT necessary to have Energy Saving Mode on and in fact will make it impossible to update the phone if it is on
  • It is fine to use a phone while it is being charged
  • Not using location services and background app refresh won't help either and will make it impossible to use Maps, Weather, and any service which requires location services.

Nah it’s alright! I understand what your saying, and tbh everyone has their own usage pattern and that’s okay too. I used to charge my old phone a lot, during the day or all night and that did me a lot of damage so i tried to change my habits a little bit. also the ios system is more intuitive than the android (based my ownexperience, as my last phone was an android), it knows when you’re gonna wake up and need to use the phone so it changes accordingly to that, and overall that’s what matters i guess

Probably not, but i’m just sharing my personal experience and thoughts. That’s what i did and what i believe helps the device a lot. It could be true, same way as it could be a myth. i mean, i wouldn’t know since it’s my first time with an iphone and as you saw i was even worried about this little amount of drop. I don’t know to be honest with you, but as you said it’s quite unusual to have this 2% drop in a year so i believe that those advices i mentioned previously were what helped me with my phone’s life battery.
